When still in High School some friends and I surfed Sunset Cliffs in San Diego. We had rocks thrown at us by some locals at a break called bird shit. They got in the water and ran their mouths. We got out and returned the favor throwing rocks at them and even putting surfboard wax on the hood and roof of their truck. That was the only aggressive interaction I had with locals.
@SigmaSurf18 сағат бұрын
I've surfed there lol, yeah thats like the most aggro area in SD....that being said most California localism is just a snide comment or a glare. Once I caught Tony Alva putting sunscreen on my windsheild at secos in Malibu. I just looked him in the eye, got a piece of paper out of my car and scooped it off in one fell swoop. He was so sad....lol

@SigmaSurf7 күн бұрын
dude it's super safe, insanely safe even, feels safer than Costa Rica these days (Costa Rica Crime has EXPLODED). Just don't go to the big cities/red light districts.
@coldseamonster5 күн бұрын
@@SigmaSurf It’s funny you say that , 20 years ago Jaco was bad. Was hoping it got better. Mal Pais / Santa Teresa still ok??
@SigmaSurf5 күн бұрын
@@coldseamonster Jaco still bad, Costa RIca was really safe until about 2021 but since the pandemic crime and murder rates have tripled there because of various reasons. Nicaragua and El Salvador of all places are both statistically much safer in the last three years! Mal Pais and Santa Theresa are def two of the safest areas in CR because of their extreme isolation. Anything within an hour or two of Liberia/San Jose is pretty sketch these days.

maybe you should ask chatgpt "was micky dora a nazi ?"
@SigmaSurf15 күн бұрын
heheh OK. "Miki Dora, a famous surfer from the 1960s and 1970s, was not a Nazi, but he did have some controversial associations and a reputation for being a countercultural figure. Dora was known for his rebellious and independent personality, as well as his disdain for mainstream surf culture. While there are rumors and some reports that suggest he had some sympathetic leanings toward far-right views, there is no definitive evidence that he was a Nazi or openly identified with such ideology. Most of the controversy surrounding Dora comes from his personal life and interactions rather than his political views. Some people have pointed to his affinity for certain controversial figures or his involvement with fringe groups, but these associations don't conclusively define his entire worldview. In short, Dora was a complex figure whose life included many contradictions, but there's no solid evidence to label him as a Nazi. His legacy is primarily tied to his surf career and influence on the sport." Furthermore you should read the book David Rensin wrote about Dora. I've read it three times now. I think he and some dudes drew some swastikas on their surfboards to troll the people at Malibu and that's about it. I think some other dudes even wrote a movie about it called "surf nazis must die". Also for context: MIKI adored his mother, Ramona who married Gard Chapin (the man who taught Dora to surf) and this is what my google search said about Ramona: "Ramona Dora was born in Paris, France to a Jewish Croatian father and a Catholic French mother2. She was Pablo Picasso's muse from 1936-19442" "Miklos Dora was born to a religious Jewish family in Oradea, Romania. He was a noted surfer in Malibu, California in the 1950s and 1960s." Pretty interesting right? Gonna make a vid soon about non fiction surf books! Thanks for watching Basile!

There’s a guy at Zippers at Cabo he pulls the same shit, I can’t remember his name for the life of me. He’s heavy set and rides a boogie board for goodness sake. He tried pulling that shit on me a couple times I just laughed at him. Bought him a beer after the Sesh and he was cool. Still saw him pulling it again, especially on the young groms. What a joke! Surfing for me is about the stoke and having fun with your friends, not having some Rottweiler trying to get all agro on you and ruin your day. I hate that shit!!!
