What's amazing is I watched this when it aired and Enzo Ferrari gave them 3 Testarossas for free after this aired because he knew the power of this one episode was one for the aged and would live forever. What a time to be alive and I was there to view it. I feel for those who now just get to view that and have it move them.

As the scene opens, James "Sonny" Crockett (Don Johnson) is confronting a fellow officer, Scott Wheeler (Bill Smitrovich) because Sonny discovered Scott was leaking info to a known drug dealer named Estaban Calderone. Information that ultimately got Sonny's former partner killed. As the song begins, we see Sonny and his soon-to-be new partner Ricardo Tubbs (Philip Michael Thomas) on their way to confront Calderone, even though he may already know they are cops. Sonny stops along the way to call his ex-wife one last time knowing that he may not make it out.

Miami Vice put me on to Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight", One of thee most baddest, iconic scenes in TV. Them two were smooth, the night was right, driving that ferrari, Tubbs loading the shotgun, Phil Collins set the mood & no other song could of provided this historic TV moment Shiggedy still 🤬s me up watching it

If I was out at dinner or a bar when it was time for Miami Vice to come on, I excused myself, go home and watch it and then go back to the bar or restaurant. Never missed an episode.

Just finished watching it again tonight on the 40th anniversary. I bought the complete DVD collection of all the episodes and I'm going to watch one every night.

Impossible to fathom the constraints this show operated under. Pre-streaming, it was broadcast over the air and burdened with the rigidity of 1980s network TV. No f-bombs or s-bombs, no nudity, no excessive violence, no plots that end with a definite win for the bad guys. Its per-episode budget was high for the times, but a fraction of modern-day streaming shows. Yet it never relented in pressing the envelope in plotlines, cinematography or fashion.

Only the producer. Michael Mann made this show happen. The directors of episodes came and went but it was Michael Mann that kept the vision going.

When my father was a cop he had a brand new Gran Fury just like that one, and even with the police engine in it and the few bolt on parts there's no way in hell that it would get near that Ferrari. You drop the hammer on that Ferrari and that square box Dodge is going to be a little dot in the rearview mirror.
