From my research i find that about 40% of Baby Boomers do not have a retirement account, about 18% have nothing except social security for retirement income. I personally know one person that is retired and collecting SS, has a net worth less than $15K, $8K of that is in his car. While he doesn't claim to be crushing it, he also doesn't realize that this could have been avoided, rather he prefers to blame his situation on his SS benefit being too little. So that brings us to good ole Timmy. This individual tries to convince that life expectancy is 73 years old. What he refuses to comprehend is that life expectancy is related to relative wealth. Someone with a middle-class income in the US is more likely to take care of their health than an individual at the poverty level. For his part, Timmy does not take care of his health, he doesn't exercise properly, he eats a poor diet, and his overall mental health is below par, stress levels high. His chances of making it to 73 in my view are not good. He is an individual that is dishonest with everyone, including himself. He will exit this world penniless. Those who think like him think that this is winning because they spent it all, died in the financial toilet. When I was 19, like many of us, I went on low budget road trips. I got that out of my system decades ago. Timmy has just discovered them.
