Jason, I am retired now! But when I was working for 35 years, an hour of thought or glueing together 10 or so pieces, was a change of pace! You have to calm down to model! Most kids today & some adults cant slow down to think! Let alone concentrait! The world wants machines out of humans. Most of the people that you probably worked for, never did your job! They wouldn't want to, of ever try. I have been there! Modeling is a training for the mind! Organization, planning, research, exiquing tasks! Eye hand coordination! And alway patience! I'm glad to hear that you are coming back from a terrible health issue! Even talking about building something is a form of rehabilitation! I think that more people, from all walks of life should build something small to slow their life down & give themselves a sense of accomplishment! Food for thought 🤔! Take care my friend!🙏😉👍👍👍

Great to see you buddy, even if it's through the screen. We (me, Billy, Ajax, etc) have missed seeing you at shows. Really sorry to hear about the job loss and the subsequent move and no time for hobbies or fun. It's important to have. Hope we get to catch up in person soon but until then pal, take care of yourself and I hope a job opportunity comes around soon. I work in the employment industry, I'll email you some stuff that I think might be useful.

Howdy, JD. I came across your channel just watching random model making videos. I understand about working the 12-hour shifts. My experience was working 12s and 10 hr. shifts (5 and 6-day work week) driving ambulances as an EMT in Los Angeles. The 24s were even worse, it drains you and puts your head in a very bad place. I jumped into the fire (literally) from the frying pan by entering the fire service as a fire/rescue dispatcher, and making models preserved my sanity. To top that off, I had really bad migraines from a serious head injury as a child where I was transported to a place I can only call Heaven. I was 14 years old when that happened. Building scale model kits and scratch building ship models saved me, for sure! I could come home from school after enduring constant bullying and just get lost in miniature scale models of things that interested me. I never turned back, I am now retired and in my 73rd year on this spinning rock we call our home planet. With models, I could enter my own world, far from the horrors that were my life. At work, it was chaos, and you were pulled like taffy in all different directions. One moment you were taking a lovely grandmother to a convalescent home and the next, rolling on a life-or-death call. With models, I could take my mind to a place of calm deliberation, matching colors, figuring out how to build a passable replication of a ship's mast using disparate things like plastic, wire, wood and brass. I loved my work, but modelling allowed me to continue without going totally crazy. I still build my models. Right now, it is a little WW2 Flower Class Corvette in 1/192nd scale from the original builder's plans. I do hope that more kids begin to discover scale model building as a hobby, or even as a full-time job by going the KZbin route. This hobby can teach a kid the use of books, magazines, websites, archives and videos for applied research not related to assignments for school. And for those kids where the school hours are not so good, it is a great escape that is surely a lot better than acting out to relieve the stress. Thanks for posting this video.

Wow... I can definitely relate to your story. Was in a severe auto accident a number of years ago, suffered a concussion as a result. I too had that sensation of you wanting your body to do something but it won't answer its helm. It was model building and playing strategy games like X-com that brought me back. Glad you've recovered from your issues. Subscribed!

Retired Mental Health and Addiction counsellor and also Cancer 3rd stage survivor. Paid a big price to survive that. I want to start doing models. I'm older at 60 so I would do better with mid to large scale. Where would be the best places to shop online? I am looking for retro, old models, including 50's, 60's 70's and pop culture models like maybe Batman, Partridge Family type of stuff. Thank you.
