You’re quite correct. These go for insane prices, but only if it’s the complete package. I picked up the single for about £20 GBP. It might be worth you seeking one out (to make a complete package) and then sell it 👍

@@NoMoreHeroesPunkPostPunk In your video you mention obtaining the red single in advance of obtaining the LP, presumably separated from the original LP at some time. Maybe mine in 1979!! Unfortunately I couldn’t find one, and at the end of the day thought it would be best for an obsessive fan to have the challenge instead of me. Maybe one already has a red single in their collection. My obsessions lie elsewhere and I can spend whatever I get for the LP on that. I did manage to find a blue single and including that in the sale.

@quisquose139 Don’t forget the blue sleeved single was with the other reissue of the album. If nothing else, collectors will want the right thing with the right thing. Just a thought.

Hi, Steven. Good question and one which I’d put down to the art department in different territories receiving only partial information.

So are the labels on first and second pressings identical then?

I haven’t got them in hand, so I couldn’t say right now, but I’d expect them to have subtle differences. Have a look at the Japanese LP section at baroquebordello. Scans will be there 👍

I honestly think that the reason is because they ran out of the Japanese gatefold sleeves, which cost more (especially with the poster) to produce than the vinyl itself. The obi with the "hand" sleeve also lists "Nosferatu" on the rear which wasn't released till Nov 1979, 7 months after the Gatefold version of X Certs. The label and even matrix numbers are identical between both Japanese sleeve versions. Whilst the album was flying out the stores, it was easier and quicker to use the other artwork and just edit the spine info rather than produce a new sleeve with an exact matching title.

Hi, Ian. Yeah, sooooo strange. For next weeks ep .. I've got the FIRST pressing (with the hand) of the Japanese pressing of 'Live (X Cert)'. Rarely seen, it's usually the SECOND pressing with the brown cover and rat walking across the cover that's usually collected.

I don't think so. Cassettes weren't that popular in Japan. What did get released on that format is highly prized now. Not sure if it got a CD release. I'm thinking 'possibly', but I'd have to dig deeper to know for sure.

I read somewhere ( on the back cover of a reissue cd ) that Devoto literally didn't have time to write any lyrics for The Thin Air , as the album had to be released by a certain date ! True or not , The Thin Air stands up incredibly well as an instrumental !
