It is best to keep the unit in the off position or locked out during any fuel tank maintenance procedures. After completion, it should also be kept offline for an additional 30 minutes. I believe the generator he's referring to is a standby generator. Portable generators, should be exercised every month or two., for about 15 to 30 min. under load.
