Ok, sorry, I'm an old geezer who grew up in the 60's and 70's and your list just got under my skin, so let me release some steam. The only thing which redeemed this list in my eyes is when you said at the very end that "this is my list", making it totally subjective, which is fine. Otherwise, this is a very strange list, and these are certainly not "top" in any objective sense. There is nothing wrong with making a list called "My 12 Favorite 12-string songs" or " the coolest 12-strings songs". But if you call a list "Top 12 12-string songs", then being "top" needs some objective parameter/s that makes them top, such as top original sound, top influence on future songs, top selling, top unique riff or melody, most complicated, or etc. So you start your 12 at the bottom w/ Mr. Tambourine Man in last place? which you yourself describe as "the song which changed the face of rock music"?. That makes absolutely no sense at the bottom of your list. That song belongs in the top 3 of any 12-string list, not only because of its historical influence, but the very idea of electrifying what was originally an acoustic song and turning a 6-string song into a distinctly 12-string song. This list also totally lacks historical perspective and balance. The are tons of songs from the 60's/70's which were not only bigger hits in their time than some of the songs on this list [which are mostly from 1985 onward], but those 60's/70's hits had an incredible influence on making the 12-string a central instrument in rock music and influenced other artists. And most of them are much more challenging than simple songs like Freefall. How can you possibly make any 12-string list and omit Hotel California, Stairway to Heaven, Look Through Any Window, several Beatles songs, several Byrd songs, a few Simon & Garfunkel songs, California Dreamin', etc. ? Out of your 12, IMHO the only songs which belong on a "top" list are the above "#12", More Than a Feeling, Wish you were Here, wanted dead or alive, and over the hills and far away. But of course it's your list and it's ok to be subjective. But I suggest that everyone dive deeper into 12-string music from the 60's/70's if you love 12-string music. And then there's Leo Kottke and others who take the 12-string to another level.

You have a beautiful natural touch for the 12 string. I have been playing my Suzuki Triple S for over 30 years and I can't sound that sweet. What brand of guitar are you playing, it has a wonderful tone. Cheers from Australia 🦘

The opening notes played on Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman is played on acoustic 12-string before the bass & electric guitar come in and double that classic's opening riff! Check it out! 😎

No 'hit' by any means...but the coolest & trippy-est 12-string guitar song ever recorded is We Took The Wrong Step Years Ago by Hawkwind. For those not familiar, give a listen and see if you don't agree. A close 2nd would be Jimi Hendrix's 12-string acoustic version of Hear My Train a Comin'.

The song that knocked the Beatles off number one in 65, at the height of Beatlemania, featured a 12 string, this group had a number of world wide hits, all featuring 12 string. Can you name the song and the group? Here's a hint, the group featured a female singer lauded as the greatest ever!
