Lovely to see the valley. I was brought up there, lived there for 18 years. My father worked for the estate as it was then. As a point of interest, Goldscleugh is pronounced 'Golds- cluff.' You will have walked past many of the fences, gates and dykes that my father worked on. Thanks for sharing, makes me want to go back. I do miss it.

A good no-nonsense review David. I recently bought one of these to replace a 20 year old Berghaus Paclite jacket. The Paclite has never been very waterproof, I've tried re-proofing it several times with little success, it always leaks on the arms. My first day out in the Cairn was on Kinder, it had drizzled slightly & my Vapour-Rise AL was already slightly damp. Walking along the plateau a strong headwind blew up with very heavy rain so I popped the Cairn on top. It kept me completely dry on the head, chest & arms & the hood worked well. Later when I took it off I noticed the VR was damp on the shoulders & back where the rucksack was. Not sure if it rubbed though or just what was on there already, probably the latter, looking forward to another rainy test! Anyway, loads better than Paclite, slightly lighter & much better pockets.

These look very nice, but at that price point they come up against very heavy hitters. Ive used Brooks Cascadia without issue for hiking, walking for years and they are 30-40 pounds cheaper than these. They need to look at the price point to entice people in.

The bag looks really nice and a good price. I checked it out on the link provided, and my only concern is that there does not seem to be any airflow design built in and I dont like my back stuck to my pack with sweat.

Great walk, David. The best one I've done so far is Simonside. That also has the advantage of only being a 20-minute drive for me. 👍

Had one but ditched it for a paramo . 2 slim fitting for me and was just a sweat box in it when hiking . Didn’t find it breathable at all . Gave it to the son in law and as he’s slimmer he finds it great .

Thanks. I like the boot I am size 10 uk , 44 EU , Those are 9 1/2 UK I tried them and they are good fit. I checked other scarpa boots and for the summer those I think will be ok. I want the boots but what bothers me is the weight , when you go above 500 grams ... and those they say size 42 550 idk size 44 will be 600 ish maybe. They are great they will give me peace of mind in the mountain but maybe for summer will be too much ... I am still deciding.

Parking charge is somewhat misleading. It's the usual entry price: £18.00 from March 25th 2024. The Hall was built in 1688 by Sir William Blackett 2nd, not Charles Phillips Trevelyan, who left the House and Estate to the National Trust. Very unusual for the gates to be open at the bottom of the Walled Garden. Use the signposted path from by the conservatory. Another stepping stones is missing (March 2024) so virtually impassable. Use the minor road and over Paine's Bridge to avoid. Worth having a look in the Church at Cambo and some Trevelyan graves in the churchyard. Those comments aside, enjoyed the film.
