She is not pretty from the front… she got a massive forehead!….. maybe Queen Ant (with too many Decs) would have been more fitting 😀

Which one is uglier? The teenage Ventura or the newly hatched duckling? I wish they would still build ships not floating LEGO. But mammon reigns over aesthetics.

Take away the top few decks and she would look a lot better. Great video though.

Funny how qm2 technically battled queen Victoria as she was being built as QV but was changed to the Arcadia, then Cunard built another QV

It's quite cool seeing the divina from this point of view. We went on her sistership Fantasia a few weeks ago, but you need to be on another ship to see your own from this high. It's quite elegant. (Congrats on your other video when QM2 breaks lose, I was quite caught in the moment, thinking you were going to hit the Divina, even if I have seen her in good condition since)

Exactly the same thing happened a few years ago when she was moored in Zeebrugge ! We returned from a trip to Bruges to find QM2 with her bow adrift and the gangway fallen in the dock. We were one of about 20 coaches who had to wait a good while for the ship to be tied up again and a rather makeshift replacement gangway arranged. All good fun !!

Fantastic Video. I would have thought that at all times enough ropes would be deployed to secure the ship. The weather in this area can change so quickly. I would have also thought, that, as the ship was in service with passengers on board, the engines should be in a state of readiness to run immediately. The Captain and his crew did an amazing job keeping the ship under control. Glad no one was injured. At the end of the video is a still image showing the bow moored to the jetty in it's new location. I would have expected more ropes to have been deployed?

It takes time to bring everything online. The whirring sound is whenever they start up or run it down so we always knew when we were about to leave or were all fast alongside. With the growing amount of ships using shoreside power, it makes me wonder what would have happened if she'd been attached to that.

I've just returned home from this cruise but was on my way back from a shore excursion to Rome when the incident happened, so it is great to see what actually took place. Our coach was still half an hour from Civitavecchia when the squall hit us, about 10 or 15 minutes after it hit the ship, and the driver had to slow almost to a crawl. When we arrived at the port I first saw three tugs nose first against the ship's side and thought they must be holding her against the quay, but as we turned a corner I saw she was in the middle of the dock. As we all sat waiting at the terminal building where the MSC vessel had been docked, I overheard a disgruntled woman Grills passenger say: "Gee, if it takes them ten minutes only to go this far, how will they get us back to New York?" !

Good to hear what it was like from the other side. Reports don't come close to touching on what happened. It came from nowhere and was cold too. I was on the balcony and got my jacket. Next thing we're moving. Apparently the forecast wind was 20-25kts. My dad said it's a birthday he'll never forget! Glad you made it back safely.

Thanks for this. So what they did was to drop anchor, was it effective? I've read comments about the fact that bow thrusters have not been deployed and if so why is that? What does the captain's first emergency announcement at the beginning of the video say?
@linerlovers Жыл бұрын
Bow thrusters and anchor was used. The first announcement was an emergency at the gangway.
@stevehall1981 Жыл бұрын
Thrusters were indeed used... but on a ship that age it's not a particularly quick process to start them...
