I always interpreted the end as Motoko coming as close to human as she can. The PM defines some of the primary qualities of a living organism, which are death and reproduction, and that these fundamentally alienate machines from humans. He suggests that the emergence of something new from the cycle of reproduction is something not achievable by machines, since a copy does not suffice as an example of reproduction. As a means of approximating this kind of reproduction, he chooses to merge with Motoko, a process during which each dies and from which each is born anew in a kind of fresh synchronicity; from the two of them, a new and different being emerges. Each, being a mirror of the other (human wrangles with robotic elements; robot wrangles with human elements), is able to satisfy the criteria of being human as defined by the PM: death and reproduction. As the shadow of an angel hovers above the three characters, we are invited to believe that Motoko has ascended, become something that is appreciably human, qualitatively, with the liberty to explore the vastness of the infinite net as a partial machine. Her existential worries have been whisked away in the unity of her and her reflection, which is at once her shell and her ghost as well as her and the PM, who represents the other half (mirror image) of what may be perceived as the intractable philosophical dilemma of defining life from either perspective (robot/human).

Honestly I didn't think 2014 was a bad year at all. But it also comes from a place of deep dissapointment with current stuff after isekai became an everpresent trope.

Watched this video 8/9 years ago for the first time when Louis was still uploading, and I believe I watched this show because of his analysis. I'm now coming back to it after all these years because I'm going over this series again. Date is: 11/19/2024. school dramas really lowered the quality... and it effected all the genres after... every single protagonist is another 14 y.o Funny, that I'm hoping for remakes of animes from 1980 to 2010. (hopefully without lolis)

This show has a huge plothole, how does the maid machine function without her CPU? It's shown in T2 that once the chip is removed the unit becomes inoperable.
