I can't stand when people say "well how are you going to pay for it?" How did we pay for the four trillion dollar bank bailout or Wallstreet bailout. Obviously we have plenty of money it just needs to be used right and I think a UBI needs to be implemented with a VAT to get the money from large Corporations and give the power back to the people. #WeneedAndrewYang #YangGangLove
@etm33985 жыл бұрын
Bail out is $4 trillion over about a 10 year period and counting paid for mainly by bonds and qe. UBI will be $2 trillion per year which is 10% of US's GDP. A simple VAT is not going to cover 10% of GDP. So, how are you going to pay for that?
@etm33985 жыл бұрын
@Eliot shevon wow that's a long reply. 1. Ay already changed his approach on reducing welfare. he was criticized as being too libertarian with the way he was planning to fund UBI, so he decided to stack UBI on top of welfare. so you cannot fund UBI by reducing welfare programs. and, you know how popular welfare programs are. Ay knows it will be political suicide to touch them. 2. your VAT calculation assumes you can tax the entire US GDP. i think you need to check your calculation. even AY is saying there are things you can and cannot add VAT too. and, so far, he's only claimed to add tax to consumption and mouse clicks. those two things added together is not $20 trillion dollars. 3. i heard about the projected growth that the trump tax cut was supposed to create and nothing came of it. you increase money flow with UBI but you also decrease money flow with the exorbitant VAT rate. it's impossible to tell whether UBI will be a stimulus or the opposite at this point in time. unemployment is at 3.5% which means we're pretty much at full employment. unless wages go up, you are not going to be able to expect much job growth based stimulus. and, it doesn't seem like AY has a plan for wage growth. 4. that's a lot of taxes to be added on top of VAT to get the UBI program rolling, a program with unknown and untested results. I am not against UBI. But, providing it to 200 million people at such a high rate has never been done. and, you're betting the farm on it. AY said it's too disruptive to not have public option. the level of m4a's disruption is a drop in the bucket compared to the massive reallocation of wealth that as described by how you think UBI will be funded thus far.

Thanks for posting this video, even if I'm seeing it 2.5 years later. I was at that Comic Con, flying through San Jose and had a few days layover there before a big trip and went to Comic Con, my first and only so far. I knew Tom Wilson was there, and that you could pay $50 to get a picture with him, yet I was too cheap to do it. Had I know he had this panel I would have gone, but I don't know how I missed it!! At least I got to see it this way. Thanks!
