Very educational. Preparing to review old slides and plugged in the old Carousel S I hadn't used since the mid-80s . Had the same advance problem others have reported. Appreciate the video, but it looked pretty challenging. The Carousel S assembly is different as I could see only four standard screws holding it together. Thought I'd take them out just to look at the insides. Big mistake! As soon as they were removed and the bottom came off, all the lenses dropped free. They require the base to secure them. Didn't have enought hands to get it all back together. I'll settle for a slide reviewer to complete the task of converting my slides to digital. For those who want to continue the disassembly process, I recommend the Curt Fargo PDFs available online.

While this video is helpful to some extent, it is ultimately useless because he doesn't give any visuals of the repair process. FAR MORE USEFUL is a 4 page instruction sheet with photographs by Curt Fargo (GOOGLE him) which he supplies with the repair kit. While the repair is time consuming and frustrating, Mr Fargo's instructions make it doable. I am handy but not mechanically inclined but managed the job and it was entirely because of Mr Fargo's photographic step-by-step repair guide.

I'm in the middle of doing this, and you didn't show any of the important parts of how to get the solenoid out, or how to replace the focus gears. It was nice of you to post this, but it really doesn't show anything.
@charlestharp99257 жыл бұрын
You can probably just remove the focus circuit board and see the screw that removes the solenoid. Try to remove the small piece of metal that holds the solenoid and see if you can get to the small piece that is broken.The focus gear is easily replaced with a pare of channel lock pliers. Place the gear on the shaft and squeeze it on with pliers.Good luck
@johnmeyer777 жыл бұрын
Yup, I got it out by removing the focus motor and then the solenoid. The gears on the auto-focus crumbled when I touched them. The solenoid part was broken. I've ordered a rebuild kit and will fix both. Thanks!

to remove the bottom over the front height adjusting screw, run the screw high, remove the Eclip, then run it down as far as it will go. Now it's easy to pull the bottom over the screw. Unlike the video, mine would not come off without removing the Eclip.

Hi, thanks for the video. Do you happen to have any info on timing this type of projector? I replaced the broken solenoid link on my model 700. There was a spring that was dangling when I took it apart and I dont know where it goes. It was connected on one end to the part that moves the top plate to index. Weird note mine wont index unless i stand it on its side buttons up. Any suggestions?

So, last night I pulled out 2 slide projectors, an 850 and a 750. Both of them failed as we were watching old slides !!!!!!!! I couldn't believe it - they have worked faithfully for over 40 years - and then BOTH of them stopped. I unscrewed them and took a good look and now I'm going to put it back together ... AND ... What would you charge if I sent one to you to fix? :)

+drmoynihan Try only removing the auto-focus board and getting to the solenoid without having to remove all the mechanism. I remember doing one that way one time. I've also heard of a guy that cut a little metal from the mechanism with a Drimal Tool to make it easier. It's worth a try.

Thank you for this video. My husband used this to successfully disassemble and install the Repair Kit in our Kodak 800 slide projector. V Caggia www.ebay.com/itm/like/400917618358?lpid=82&chn=psTry removing the solenoid and replacing the solenoid actuator by removing the screws around the auto-focus circuit board. If you can't, than you must disassemble the entire mechanism as in my video. Good luck.

How do you install the plastic actuator link into the rectangular hole on the actuator arm?
@charlestharp99259 жыл бұрын
Scott Wood The actuator is just slightly larger than the hole. You need to get one end started into the rectangular hole and push hard. Good luck
@unclewoody9 жыл бұрын
Charles Tharp I got her done with the plunger inside the solenoid core. It helped to put a couple of 6/32 x 1" screws into the solenoid body's mounting hole. Then you can easily maneuver it in place. Thanks for the help.
@unclewoody9 жыл бұрын
You are correct in saying it is a real pain in the ass to replace the link. When you insert the new plastic link, do you have to rotate it 90 degrees to snap it in place?
@charlestharp99259 жыл бұрын
Scott Wood Yes it's a pain in the ass. No, you just get one end started and push hard. Than you get the solenoid onto the actuator and then you must turn it 90 degrees to get it back in place. Good luck.

I have a Kodak E3 projector that has not been used for many years. When I turn it on, the projector advances constantly. Nothing seems to make it stop! Any ideas as to where I should start with this? THANKS!
@charlestharp99259 жыл бұрын
smichelsen More than likely your solenoid is stuck causing it to constantly run. If your projector is old and never repaired, you will need that kit. It is a real pain in the ass but you can change that solenoid nylon piece that crumbles and falls apart. You need to have good mechanical skills. Try removing just the auto-focus circuit-board in the open compartment area. You will see the 2 screws that hold the solenoid into the mechanism. See if you can replace the broken part and reassemble without breaking-down the entire machine. I've done it both ways.

I tried fixing it over the weekend, but I lost the spring during my rebuilt and I give up on my Kodak Carousel slide projector. I got rid of it the next morning, because Kodak Carousels are very difficult to repair. I'll have to find another slide projector which is not Carousel. I'll look for either a Kodak Cavalcade 520 or a Kodak 300 slide projectors from the 1950's which was the precursor to the Carousel. I have most of the remaining parts from my Kodak Carousel 650 that I'm keeping which I'll be using for parts.
