That’s sad to see! I remember when every slip there had a charter boat and kids running fish up in carts in summer, just booming with people, salmon hanging on racks and people (tourist) taking pictures of their catch! Time kills everything!

Dealt with fishing boats in the ocean; pick a spot away from everyone, and commercial boat tried to push in, but we had authorization to DETER this from happening, especially when one of their guest cast directly at our boat. We pulled out our wrist-rocket slingshot, using steel ball bearings. Gave the Capt a radio warning to get the guy or suffer a barrage - he gladly nailed the idiot who cast at us, and then left us to our spot. Beyond 3 miles, we use real weapons.

Guess we'll never know what that fisherman wanted to tell you. I'm not saying you should have stopped and listened, but sometimes better communication can help these situations.

In my experience, fisherman, and kayakers recon themselves to be the most noble folks on the water. I do my best to not interfere with them, but rest assured, they will always be in the channel no matter how much space is available for them. I sort of understand that fish may hang out on ledges, but if you are going to fish in the channel, you can't get upset when boats pass by you!!! And kayaks can go literally anywhere they want on water, yet they are always in the channel doodling about, I would think that the joy of kayaking would be exploring places other boats can't, but what do I know?!!! Cheers!

Typical Columbia River Sports fisherman, they think that they own the entire river and all the fish in it. I am the janitor at one of the marinas on the river and you would not believe the messes they leave on a regular basis! I have had to get out the hose and clean the ceilings after they get back from bouncing around all day eating the Taco Bell/McDonalds and drinking cheap beer all day. You would think that they would have the sense to take Imodium AD before going out. Then having to listen to them brag every year about how they have to throw out and entire freezer full of salmon to make room for this year's catch! Not once have I heard one say they were going to donate it to the Senior's Center or the Food Bank.

Honestly as a fisherman, all I can think watching this is how much fishing time he is wasting by yelling at you. Even if you didn't handle it perfectly, what's he going to do about it? He doesn't own the river and you did absolutely nothing wrong. You should see how close some boats will fly by you out there, I get waked out all the time, I don't complain or bitch or get mad, it's part of the deal when you share the water. Bad day or not, dude was in the wrong and stupid about it.

Davis Bar is a popular down stream troll across from the confluence of the Columbia and Willamette rivers for spring Chinook salmon. When it is busy with fishermen, it's like fishing in a washing machine. He should be use to big wakes out there. Having said that, it is always prudent to following the red line of navigation aids up river bound and speed over ground is secondary to the actual size of your wake. I imagine your displacement hull at 5 knots puts out an impressive wake. Have you looked behind your boat and seen your wake? Safe boating to all!
