I have (2) Kobalt 80-volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and use (2) 5 AH Batteries. Mine does not cut off like that. It keeps running uless I jam the chain. Using it on a Southeast LA farm that was devastated by a Hurricane and has been working absolutely great even cutting huge logs and trees. For oil, I like to use Ryobi Bar and chain oil. We have cut 20"+_ logs and it works like a charm. And NO more pulling and pulling to start a gas-powered chainsaw. My first 80-volt 18" Bar Chain saw with a 5-AH Battery and charger was $400 in Jul 2021 love my Kobalt 80-volt brushless 18" chainsaw with a 5-ah battery. - Still being sold on Lowes website as of 5/26/2024 - I have (2) Kobalt 80-volt 18" Bar Chainsaws and use (2) 5 AH Batteries. When it works you can hear the difference between the saws, the gen 2 clearly runs faster and has is more powerful Looks like a battery issue, seems the saws surge protection is going off and or it's not getting enough power from the smaller battery on the tougher cuts

Put the right battery in the newer saw and it will work much better. I regularly cut logs bigger than the blade with none of the shutdown issues. I have a 5ah and a 6ah battery and can cut what you're cutting for 6 hours without running out of juice. The problem you're having getting it to bite into the wood is the riders on the chain. Get a 2-in-1 file and you'll see the difference (I've been sharpening chains for 22 years and absolutely recommend it). I see a lot of dust coming out on the newer saw, maybe not quite sharp.

@@miscvideos5020 After running my newer style Kobalt 80v chainsaw,(bought used), I can tell you your situation is odd. I still see chain problems, but mostly due to improper sharpening. Cutting off to one side(slanting) is an indicator of a chain that is out of wack. This saw should easily cut straight through. Someone claims it needs a 5ah battery but that is a false statement. I would not recommend a 2ah(do they make one?) but the saw performs well running a 2.5ah. That said, the Battery needs to be in good condition to properly power the higher output motor. If a cell is week but not failed the battery may work okay in a less demanding tool but show its issue under greater demand. The Battery swap seems to indicate an aging battery beginning to lose Max potential. *The Battery failing will most definitely let the motor stall(chain bind) more easily. Reduce the size wood it is cutting or reduce the pressure exerted to make the cut. Ultimately - Replace the Battery. oh, on the Chain cutting crooked - I have at least 5 chains, to address when time allows, cutting on a slant/curve. I even have 2 super sharp chains cutting crooked(possible Raker issues)

My gen 2 is shutting off now as well. Not sure exactly what it is but I am thinking I tweaked the bar or chain and it is giving it fits. Funny I have similar problems, but love this chainsaw and need it back running when ever I need it. surving boob tube here to try to figure out what is going on. That cut off that is internal never was a problem and now it is. I don't want to tear this thing apart but it is cramping my style here. Have trees that needed to be down this winter and Spring is coming fast here and shutting the door to coppiceland. Have not even called because I know they will do F'all.

One commenter here suggested my issue was caused by the battery I was using. I still use my old saw and that new one is collecting dust but recently I have been having an issue with my Gen 1 saw. If I leave it in the shed where it's cold the battery will say it has charge but it will just keep shutting down. Grab a warmer battery from the garage and works just fine. Maybe something going on with your battery since your issue just started happening.
@GrizzlyGroundswell
@GrizzlyGroundswell Жыл бұрын
@@miscvideos5020 Thanks I will keep an eye on it! I think it has something to do with a bent bar or dull chain, but have not looked as of yet. But it was warmer out so there maybe something to that as well! I hate not being able to take it apart and inspect. But I don't do well with electricity so won't test my luck here.

I really enjoy my older Gen 1 Kobalt 80v. We just had a ice storm come thru Austin and knock down a bunch of trees. All the saws at the stores were sold out, decided to help a neighbor who bought a 42cc craftsman, nothing but trouble with his gas one, ran out of gas also and due to the storm there was no mix available either. Kept having issues with it. With the Kobalt electric you just drop in battery and you're off and away. Not as powerful as a gas saw of course, but for what it is its amazing. No one can cut non-stop anyhow, you have to stop not only to rest but to clear everything away. I prefer electric over the start-stop of gas

I noticed the other day my v1 saw started cutting out and it was cold outside. I read where batteries can't output as much power in colder temps. I think this was the reason for my saw cutting out as I hadn't had that issue in the past. Curious what this days temps were.

I've been having that same issue with My gen 1. Having to make sure to store batteries in a warm area. They will show a charge on the gauge but still wont work if cold.

Man, you are either pushing your entire body weight on that saw, or your battery is b0nkers. That 72V battery can put out 1.5kW, to choke out that power needs brute force.

Dude... stop forcing it... Chain sharp?? Your cut is likely wandering because of two things. A Dull chain & I would suspect the force on the bar might be bowing it, causing the curve cut. Just let the tool do the work at it's own pace.

It went hard but it did take me a couple hours. You pretty much have to completely disassemble it to get at the oil hoses. Once I had it apart I blew out all the lines and used a drill to verify the pump was working. After reassembly its working great.

The new saw has a 2.5 kw motor and the old one has a 1.5 kw motor. The new saw has to have the 5ah battery because the 2ah can’t put out enough current for the bigger motor. On the smaller battery there’s less cells and the current overload kicks in. With the bigger battery its not as much of a strain on the battery which also lasts longer 👍🏻
