Bad information - The only reason one is smoking more is due to it burning faster and needing more oxygen then the less volatile fluid. This will not be affected in a cylinder with a measured air mass/volume.

Just saw your 30k vid...was good except don’t forget the enormous amount of Carbon Monoxide and Carbon Dioxide that comes from the tailpipe. And the under-4 micron particles. (The ones that float hundreds of miles and also go deepest into the lungs). They may look “clean” but in reality, not having the DPF would at least allow most of the soot to stick together and fall to the ground easily because it’s large and heavy. A DPF (in my opinion) is mostly for visual appeal and nose appeal ...and like most all liberal-contrived strategies, fairly useless! :) Hope you’re doing well man! -Nate

Saw your new mpg report...wish you’d tell (when comparing) that your Ram vs your previous Fords are not apples to apples since the Ram is derated in power. My 19 f250 diesel has achieved 19.1 overall (with three regens) over a recent 1,210 mile trip. Yes, that’s less. But the power output is much higher and it sits higher too. Not sure about actual weight tho. On the scales, mine sits at around 8,420 lbs most days. Good to see you’re doing good and so is the truck! My Ford has been doing great. 41,900 miles on her now! You went back to Ford! I knew that would happen!! Lol I like it and I bet you will too. Whites a great looking color on Ford. I’m loving mine still, I’ve got 30,000 miles on the 19 f250 as of today. It’s such a tank. Last month I bought a 19 4Runner TRD Premium to help keep some of the miles off the Ford and I’ve got 3300 miles on it now already in about 5 weeks! lol How are you liking your new Powerstroke so far? How many miles on it? Besides the seats, what made you want Ford again? (The aluminum body has me hooked on Ford for sure, and the looks of Ford can’t be beat I think and their 2019 powertrain is almost perfect).
@dieselrsm
@dieselrsm 4 жыл бұрын
Neo Craft, yeah I’m back in a Ford lol. Well the Ram seats are very uncomfortable on long drives. Their seats are harder and my tail bone hurt so much that I couldn’t sit down after a long drive. Ford seats are softer and more comfortable and my tail bone never hurt after a 10 hour drive. The Ford is overall a better looking truck. Its cab is bigger and roomier. This 19 seems more powerful than my 17 F350, obviously a small bump in horsepower and torque from the 17s. I love that its faster than the Ram. The Cummins a great engine, I’ve owned 4 of them but the 6.7 Powerstroke is just way faster and I like that. I now have over 2000 miles on the truck. I drove a lot over the past week or so. Mileage is better than my 17 F350 but not as good as the Ram Cummins. Hands down the Cummins gets way better fuel mileage....but its slower....so yeah. The 19 is faster, gets around 20 MPGs on the highway (when not in a regen) and is a better looking truck overall. I wanted to wait on the 2020s until after a year so they can work out any bugs that might arise with the new 10 speed auto.

dieselrsm Well I’m happy for ya! Mine hasnt been perfect by any means, but it’s impossible for me to buy something else because no other brand really has it all as good as the Ford does. MPGs don’t really matter to me, I idle a lot (525 hrs so far I think) because my dog goes everywhere with me...so my overall average is probably something like 14. Lol My buddy Tyson in Nova Scotia has a 2020 on order, his channel is workplaytv on KZbin. He currently has three Powerstrokes...a 17 f250, 18 f550 and 19 f350. He’s trading the 17 for the 2020. dieselrsm I wondered if you missed that engine and tranny!! I think I would too. Even when mine went in the shop for nearly 75 days for that crazy wiring harness fiasco, I told my friends “I’d still go buy a Ford in a heartbeat because none of them are like a Ford.” It’s just got a personality if you will that I really like. I absolutely cannot do without the door code keypad either. I take my little toy fox terrier with me to my shop and all of my deliveries and I idle a ton to keep him comfy. Just getting out and hitting those two bottom keypad buttons and lock it running is a luxury I can’t give up lol And never worrying about locking myself out, or out of my house or shop because keys to all that are always in my truck. Plus I can leave a small order in my truck at night when I come home and a customer can simply unlock my truck with a code and lock it again - it just works so well in my lifestyle. I’ve got like 450 idle hours out of 1010 total hours and 24,600 miles lol But that little dog is worth it and it’s nice to have him with me. Anyways, I have to say those 10-spd Powerstrokes have my full interest and I can’t wait to drive one! But I really do love my 6-spd auto. So smooth and just a touch firm shifts - just like it’s supposed to be. I only average like 15 mpg overall since owning it but I’m not too hung up on mpg because my business pays for it and I really don’t see it as a real cost compared to tons of other costs in business. I’ll have had my truck a year come sept 29 and at 30,000 ish miles a year, it’s hard for me to ever go to another brand or type of vehicle now ...I loved my 99 Ram Cummins I bought new, and for 250,000 miles in 5 years it served me well. But there’s just no comparison to my 19 Lariat. I’ve got it almost half paid off already and if I would get a 2021 10-spd I’d probably keep this one too (maybe deleted! Haha) Also, if you wanna just communicate on here that’s ok but if you feel comfortable emailing mines [email protected] ...I talk to several KZbin guys that way that seem like good guys and you do as well. That was good of them and it makes me feel better knowing pretty much everything is covered to 75k miles. I wondered if you miss your Ford at times. Do you find that Ram not having telescope steering wheel is not good? When I drove an 18, I felt that was the biggest downer because I like to sit back from the dash. I’m only 5’ 10”, But not being able to pull the wheel towards me made me feel like the cab was small compared to my Ford. Just curious what you thought of that, since you said you were shorter than me.
@dieselrsm

Hey saw your new regen vid. EGR is bypassing during regen because it would need to be routed thru the cooler, which it’s job is to cool the exhaust, and higher temps are what’s needed. @@natehawkins2910 I have 7200 miles on it now. Regens are not an issue and noticeable like on the Fords. Regens has no real effects on MPGs. I think if you were to get a new truck wait for the 2020 Fords with the 10 speed transmission. Then test both the Fords and Rams.

@natehawkins2910 5 жыл бұрын
dieselrsm That’s neat you’re getting some miles on it pretty quick. I’m kinda excited for ford changing the fuel system, block and turbo and of course the 10spd transmission. I think they are FINALLY updating Sync too-I cant stand the current outdated version. Lots of connection issues and super slow and kinda ugly graphics. I was kinda hoping to get a 3.73 or 4.10 rear end instead of my current 3.55. A 4.10 with the 10-spd sounds like a great combo for off-the-line oomph and lower revs at 75 mph. I am hoping they also update the DPF and EGR cooler so that it regens less frequently. I heard the 19 Ram did and just uses more DEF instead of EGR and I’d be fine with that. Less EGR use the merrier in my book. Oh and I’d never go with an all-black interior again it looks too boring and gets too hot in the sun. If I’d go back to Ford, I’d definitely go King Ranch trim at least with adaptive cruise and LEDs from factory. Are you gonna do an update/mpg vid on yours soon? I sure like your interior!
@natehawkins2910
@natehawkins2910 5 жыл бұрын
Ok question on the DPF soot load gauge. From what I understand, a common dpf for trucks like yours and mine can only hold a “few” (5 or 8?) grams of soot before clogging and needing to regen. I see your EZLynk shows up to like 100 grams but that’s impossible as that’s nearly a pound of soot. Do you think that it’s getting “near full” at 3 and passive regen’ing back to “0”? I know the 19’s show a dpf status gauge and will actively regen with a lot of town driving. Paul from PDdiesel on KZbin has shown his 19 with dpf full and trying to regen on his short trip. I ask this because I suspect there’s something not telling EZLynk about Whats truly going on inside the dpf and painting a pretty (albeit ideal) picture of dpf status. I do think your temps are showing correct and they are truly hot enough for passive regen. I just don’t think “soot capacity” is anything near even 50 grams because of horrible back pressure that would likely destroy the turbo. Keep in mind Fiat/Ram just settled with EPA and paid $800 million for “cheating” on emissions on their light and heavy duty diesels. Ford is currently being investigated and I’m sure they’ll be next. What are your thoughts? Is it (computer) being truthful, or is it showing its parameters as lollipops and unicorns just to make us feel good? Lol
@dieselrsm
@dieselrsm 5 жыл бұрын
Well I believe the computer is reading accurately. Why would a computer lie? However the parameters used as a base line could be subject to scrutiny. I'm not sure what Ram/Cummins uses as a base line to define Zero PSI DPF Pressure. 100 grams equals to 1/5 pound or 3.5 ounces, 1 stick of butter, or a little less than half a cup. 100 grams also equals half a medium size apple. 3/4 cup of all purpose flour is also a 100 grams and so is 1/2 cup of rice. So 100 grams really isn't a lot. So its perfectly reasonable to have 100 grams full in a DPF. Another way to look at what a 100 grams looks like, it is 1/5 of a 16 oz can of beer or soft drink.
@natehawkins2910
@natehawkins2910 5 жыл бұрын
dieselrsm I feel so silly. I was thinking 1000 grams but seeing 100 grams lol Heavens. So yeah, 100 grams isn’t that terrible much. Thank you for helping me realize I was not on the right track here lol I’ve been reading about sizing of DPFs compared to the engine displacement with a 1:1.5 ratio of engine:DPF. Kinda interesting. So if you hypothetically were to buy another Ford, would you go with the 3.31 axle ratio? I’m toying around with trading my 19 Lariat for a 19 King Ranch because ford sent me a $3500 private offer, and my trade in and interest is so good. What are your thoughts?
@dieselrsm
@dieselrsm 5 жыл бұрын
Neo Craft, no worries. I’m planning on doing a video on what 100 grams looks like just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I would recommend waiting for the 2020 Superduty. It will have a 10 speed transmission and should get better MPGs than the current model. If I were to get another Ford it would be the 2020 model. Mainly because I want the 10 speed.

Neo Craft, yes very true. I completely forgot about the difference in gearing and the lower power ratings. So yes the Ram would get better MPGs and its a straight 6 vs a V8. I did, the Ford around 8,000 lbs. the Ram is around 7,600 lbs.

dieselrsm Coolness. I think they make them programmed to all run a little richer/cooler for the first 10k Miles too. Then the computer Leans them out a bit after a long engine break-in is over. I took my 250 to the scales and it weighed 8400 as it sits empty, with my add-ons. I did go test drive an 18 Limited Tungsten tho to compare. I like / miss the Cummins noise but found it needed a bit more NVH refining...and the 19 was supposed to address that w/CGI block. I also was astonished that there was no telescope wheel in a $76,000 truck lol and I understand that is still unavailable in the 19’s. Hard for me to imagine why. I love the telescope wheel function!

Thank you for the two EGR videos! Very informative buddy. I love to learn about them! The Rams no longer have 2 cooling systems like the Powerstroke does, correct? If so, why do you think Ford still goes with 2 complete systems? On my EZLYNK monitor, my EGR Cooler temps barely ever fluctuate 5 degrees. Are having 2 separate cooling systems overkill these days now that DEF is in use, and EGR is used a bit less?
@dieselrsm
@dieselrsm 5 жыл бұрын
You're welcome. Ram Cummins has never used a dual core cooler design. Ford uses 2 cores because they use a lot more EGR than the Cummins engines. Ford uses a lot more EGR than Cummins so having two cores increases cooling effectiveness. On the Cummins, because of SCR/DEF they use less EGR than 2007-2012 Models.

dieselrsm Thank you also for part 3! I didn’t know my EGR cooler core was updated to larger holes! That makes me feel better I figured it was the same old part from 2011 lol Do you think that using less EGR just means using more volume of DEF on Cummins? Thanks, Nate
@dieselrsm
@dieselrsm 5 жыл бұрын
Neo Craft, as for the Cummins using more DEF to compensate for less EGR. This is not the case. Cummins has really refined their emissions systems. That doesn’t mean there aren’t issues from time to time it just means that they know how to build emissions systems. Cummins engines with SCR/DEF can see up to 7 -10k miles between fill ups. Depending on driving conditions the average driver will see around 4-6k miles between fill ups. My previous 2016 Ram Cummins I saw 5-8k miles between fill ups.

dieselrsm I wonder then if it has to do with Cummins lower HP output setting their emissions threshold lower. I know there’s been talk in the shops that anything using Bosch systems don’t meet actual emissions standards (think VW dieselgate). Since when these systems were developed, there were ZERO mobile testing units for emissions. I am frankly puzzled how they all can use so very little DEF and make honest emissions standards. I’ll need to dig a little deeper into this and see if I can find out more. I understand that is the main reason duramax switched to All-Denso fuel systems...Bosch wasn’t meeting standards in reality with theirs, either. So many similarities between all three with Bosch. And now Fords changing theirs up dramatically as well...just makes me wonder...

My local dealership told me that the new Rams do have a way to do a manual regeneration, but ONLY in the chassis cab models, is this true? I’m not surprised that you went to Ram, but I’m surprised that you did because of no way to do a manual regen. I like the exterior of my ford but the interior is lacking, I’d love to switch but I only have 20 minute commutes to and from work weekly but I do tow almost every weekend, I’m a firm believer that with the combination of OCR and Archoil cetane booster in every fill up keep me out of the shops for a static regen, but then again maybe that’s just my wishful thinking. A good friend of mine hasn’t had one single exhaust related issue to date on his ‘17 Ram with 89k on it, so I’m thinking of switching, so my question is, do you know if Ram will be coming out with a manual regen in their non-chassis cabs? Because that one video you showed with a Ram having an option to monitor the soot level makes me think it’s an option that the dealerships don’t know about, kinda like on the Ford, my dealership had no idea what OCR was until I showed them your videos, good luck with the truck bud, maybe there is one in my future
@dieselrsm
@dieselrsm 5 жыл бұрын
From what I understand the chassis cab models are able to do a manual regeneration. No sure if the new 2019 or future models will offer a manual regeneration option. I would hope so but time will tell. OCR was a selling point in the Ford when I first bought it but it was not enough for me to stay with Ford. I too loved the exterior look of the Ford but I missed the Cummins and wanted to sit in a more luxurious interior.

Nice to see you decided to open discussions for us! What do you think about doing a overview of the EGR system on your new truck, compared to the Powerstroke you had? I know my 6.7 Powerstroke EGR system pretty much inside out, and it’s weak links ...but I know very little about how the Cummins EGR parts are for longevity. Also, maybe show how the Cummins EGR setup changed vs the 18? I’m thinking Ford will be changing their cooler design some but that’s just a hunch lol. I ask this because yesterday when I test drove an 18, I took about 10 minutes by myself at the dealer just analyzing the EGR system and watching/listening to it run so I was hoping you may know some of it’s pros and cons.

I have the same problem with my 2015 F-250. I used to pull a 38’ fifth wheel camper, so I thought the real leaf springs were damaged, but I never could explain why the front driver side would lean. I thought the rear was pulling down the front. I ended up replacing the rear leaf springs hoping that was the problem, nope, still leans on the driver side, front and back. For you did putting this spacer in the front help raise the rear lean as well?
