No Crisco! Vegetable fat will only make the birds sick, suet needs to be animal fat, preferably lard.

The cornmeal mixture is two parts Crisco, one part flour, and one part birdseed with three parts corn meal. Children love mixing this with their hands. Note: This can also be made with one part Crisco, one part peanut butter, one part flour and one part cornmeal. The peanut butter can be left out if there is a concern about peanut allergies.
