Sonic CD only sold 2M at the time, however the SEGA CD also only sold 2M at the time, it sold as much as the system it was on. As for 3&K, it sold poorly in comparison, overall sales put it way down. Sonic 1: 16M Sonic Adventure: 9M~ *All platforms Sonic Adventure 2: 9M~ *All platforms Sonic 2: 6M Sonic Frontiers: 3 - 5M~ Sonic Heroes: 3.4M Sonic 3 & K doesn't even make the top ten, and it has been re-released more times than Skyrim AND GTA V combined. I personally see Sonic CD hate from the US and nowhere else, so I'm totally gonna go for the low blow and just assume those people are probably a bit too stupid for the exploration mechanics in CD. (Mild offense). Of course, these same people also got stuck on the "press up and down" barrel because they can't read a manual, so there is some merit to my insult. As for 3 & K, I have a few issues with it myself, like how Sonic looks like he's facing diagonally while running forward and looks so stupid compared to Sonic 1, CD, 2 and even Sonic Blast on the Game Gear. I will agree Sonic CD bonus stages can be awkward to get used to, but they're about as difficult as collecting enough rings to get to them after that. (not very). Sonic CD is actually everything people want in modern Sonic games, speed and precise platforming, but also the ability to explore, conversely 3 & K is what people now dislike about it, linear paths with minimal exploration. My favourite zones in each are Flying Battery (3 & K) and Stardust Speedway (CD).

Not that sonic would be considered a "cashgrab" too, but it's still a safe choice for universal to use an already well-known ip, but comparing the two at least Sonic 3 was actually asked for and has improved after the previous two movies ToT

I really loved Infinite at first, I thought he was shaping up to be a really cool character who could've ended up one of my favorites of the entire series. I hate the direction they went, they completely wasted his character arc and now that he's canonically dead we have zero chance for a retry.

Something I find fascinating about the phantom ruby is that with it's introduction in Mania it appears to have given way to the idea of a unique subset of gems that control the laws of physics as we know them in a sense, The ruby controls "reality" with its ability to warp reality, then we got introduced to Dr.Starline in the comics and his Warp topaz, a gem that controls space by being able to warp through and around it, and then further down the line we get the paradox prism, another if more centralized time stone like gem obviously controlling time and dimensions, all of which are interesting developments to think about if you link them together, especially thinking about the idea there could be more of them out there~

Someone may have already thought of it, but it would be cool if the phantom ruby not just made a phantom clone of people, including from the past, but speaking of the past, it would also be cool if they used the phantom ruby to alter their surroundings into the places they've been to before. Imagine based on that one fanart i saw awhile ago, infinite making a phantom copy of maria? That would be a perfect boss fight for shadow before we even get that maria boss fight from omens

Shadow was introduced in Sonic adventure 2, and the games after that where he had the most screen time we're Sonic Heroes, Shadow the hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog (06) Do you know what all these games have in common they are all 3d, why do Shadow have 2d phases ? Like 2d should be for Classic Sonic and only, but no, all the 3 characters have 2d parts, so having classic sonic in the history sees a little useless for me, as everything he can do Modern Sonic can too.

Something interesting to point out is that the phantom ruby (and maybe infinite) have multiple ways to come back in future sonic games which is interesting to point out. One, as an antagonist: as both the ruby and Infinite haven’t been killed off, so it could be cool to see him come back and maybe see a more insane version of the character. Two,villain in a future generation remake (probably a Silver expansion pack): as silvers whole thing is that he travels in time to save the future. Three, a new Phantom Ruby: This is possible, as really the phantom ruby is the only really big difference between the classic sonic timeline and the mania timeline (if the forces tails line is true about Mania sonic), and since classic sonic is younger sonic, maybe a phantom ruby is just lying there someone. Also some other interesting things about the ruby and infinite that I want to point out is that a) it isn’t absorbed into the holder when used, which is cool way to make it distinct from the emeralds, and b), infinite in forces seems to act more like a more like a foil to Super Sonic then regular sonic. Think about it, infinite instead of embracing his own identity like how sonic does (causing himself super-sonic when entering his super form) completely renames himself and places his entire identity into his new powers. It reflects how sonic could have turned out if he let his super-form completely corrupt his identity (although I don’t think this was planned at all by Sega). Sorry if this is too long but I wanted to get my thoughts out there about it.

Sonic CD being mid? Nah. Thats one of the best games objectively. I think most of these points aren't very that well thought out. I see these points parroted often from big KZbinrs communities. I thought your video was a good one, and I liked the commentary but I'll have to make a post disagreeing and explaining why on everything BESIDES the soundtrack. [ANIMATION]: The animation in this game was done in part by Studio Junio, and produced by Toei Animation. There really is a huge amount of effort put into the ending and opening to Sonic CD, and is quite incredible especially since it was traditional animation. (Fully drawn out) The artstyle in these cutscenes is the first time people in the US got to see the Japanese design of Sonic, until then people were used to seeing Greg Martin's Sonic design which is seen on the box art of almost every 90's Sonic The Hedgehog game. The coloring is beautiful and the scenery is quite nice to look at and very well drawn. The fact that this was released in 1993 and with fully animated movie-like cutscenes is a huge step up in the franchise, and really shows how incredible this part of the game is. [Story]: The games story is very well written and pieced together, It is perhaps one of the best storylines of the classic era games even! The game revolves around Sonic traveling to Little Planet for a vacation when he sees it has been chained to Never Lake with a metallic shell around it. Dr Robotnik is trying to take over the planet and Sonic is followed by star-struck fan Amy Rose who gets kidnapped by Metal Sonic. Sonic must now save the planet and Amy. With the time travel mechanic, the game is able to have different layouts of each zone, with the past having a super natural somewhat pre-historic feel and look to it, and the futures can show a robotic nightmarish neglected dystopia ruled by Eggman, or a BEAUTIFUL place where technology aids nature which can be seen as a deeper message to helping the environment, with the graphics taking advantage of the Sega CD’s capabilities. [Graphics] The graphics are quite beautiful for a game from the early 90’s, Sonic CD was released on the Sega CD which is a less known console but this allowed it to go above and beyond with the graphics. The stages each have incredible detail to their backgrounds as well as objects and badnik designs. A good example of the backgrounds is in Stardust Speedway. In the Present one can see a beautiful starry sky with the ground below covered in sparkling colors of stardust, in the good future one can see amusement parks and a city sparkling in bright colors and in the Bad Future it’s storming and a huge city that is well detailed and beautiful to look at. The futures are wildly different and each one is decorated and detailed more than the last. This game is a prime example of a game that goes all out and uses all of it's consoles capabilities to produce something spectacular. (Continuing in reply)

As for the level design, easily some of the most memorable and best of any classic game. The level design seems to suddenly of been being criticized starting with a couple youtubers saying they thought the level design was bad in their opinion and did not enjoy it, with a section of the fanbase shifting their opinions after the videos were released, however in CDs defense, the level designs are NOT bad at all. And the reason some stages are bad could be due to the fact that it was in development at the same time as sonic 2, And the teams were split one in Japan to work on CD and one in the US to work on sonic 2. I can name multiple levels that have a good design, palmtree panic has a bunch of speed sections to where you can go fast (if you wanted to), tons to explore and lots of interaction and honestly just because the game requires exploring to find past and future signs to time travel does NOT make it a bad game by any means, in all honesty. Backtracking and exploration is required to find sign posts to get the chaos emeralds in Sonic 2, which can occasionally be frustrating too yet people say this is a poor choice for the levels in sonic CD. Stardust speedway is also a really good level design, obstacles here and there, some popping out of the ground with robots and speed sections, to requiring the player to not just simply hold right but to learn the layout and use cannons to get to certain parts to reach the end (like the mini maze in zone 2), Tidal tempest is also surprisingly good when it comes to level design as well as obstacles that can kill you and pose a threat whether it be spikes, the dragon totem things that shoot blue fire that pushes you down which in certain scenarios can lead to getting crushed if not timed right (like the sections with the boxes i mean) which leads to a challenge, levels are seemingly nowadays being criticized as being "too easy" but there are crushers, spikes, spike pits, a decent amount of enemies and some hidden obstacles that pop out (sometimes admittedly cheap) in each level, And more can be gotten out of the game if one puts the effort in to time travel. And they also have speedy areas of which the player can go fast if they so choose similar to sonic 1 and the others. the goal posts at the end is basically telling the game "I'm done with this stage", you have to time travel to create a good future requiring the player to put effort into doing so, exploring for the robot generator, to enter these you have to maintain sonics speed after hitting a sign post, this multi step process of travelling to the past, finding the robot generator, and exiting takes advantage of the games level design which forces the player to interact with elements. The first step requires an understanding and skillful execution of the games mechanics. Reaching the required velocity is the hard part which poses a challenge, having to scout out the level for areas that have access to fluid movement, some are easy like two springs facing each other, others requiring the player to search around the zone and do an obstacle course (sort of going against the claims levels are too easy with no effort required to beat, unless you decide to skip everything and just stay in the present, holding right and jumping a few times) and avoiding obstacles like other sonic games. The stages were designed cleverly to both have a little challenge if you're trying to play it like how one would play sonic 1, while having maximum use and effect with a little challenge if you play it the way its meant to be played (time travelling) as you can see through how the stage loops together. tons of spring based platforming, loops upon loops, messing with conveyor belts, and levels that take a couple minutes to reach the goal if played by putting effort in, make you learn the intricacies of the individual stage to the point you'll even learn the maps by the end of the game! If you play it just simply as you would the other classic games it isn't much a super fun way to play, you're running past genius level concepts, loop-de-loops, obstacles, and never take the time to breathe in any of the fresh new experimental concepts and interesting gameplay. Sure the game doesn't really tell you the best way to play it, but you can get hints by finding the past and future signposts or reading the manual. Though I will say levels such as Collision Chaos (Which I like personally but most people hate), Wacky Workbench, and Metallic madness are horribly done. Metallic madness gets repetitive in each zone, and extends too long especially in the second zone. The enemies are a bit of a joke, Wacky Workbench is a really godawful stage and the bounce mechanic is frustrating and annoying and leads to many cheap out-of-control deaths. And Collision Chaos has a hard boss fight somewhat on your first few attempts, although not in the good way it's just annoying. The variation in levels and zones are done VERY well. Unlike a truly bad game as say, Knuckles' Chaotix (which barely changes the levels variation in each act and has little to no obstacles or badniks to avoid.), this game changes up the layouts of the map, object locations, platforming, and badniks in each zone. Some zones it can be easy to time travel, while others being hard to do so requiring the player to put effort into beating the game with the good ending, you are the one in charge of the future of THE PLANET. Each zone has different variations in the Past, and Good Future, and Bad Future. How you play in the past affects the future either resulting in a toxic environment, more obstacles sometimes than in the past or present when you get a bad future, and the Good Future having beautiful colors, and a lot of detail and care is put into each zone. They are very fun to play in, with tons to interact with when you put in the effort to time travel.

The Phantom Ruby was so interesting to me mostly because it was pretty much as powerful as the Chaos Emeralds. Like, it's powers were kinda vague with abilities like illusions, reality altering, traveling through space & time. That was cool. And the fact it was also on Angel Island made it sort of mysterious. But they just wasted it with all the other potential of Forces

I think it would be interesting if the phantom ruby could only make copies of those who were affectied by it. Maybe phantom ruby and it's copies are kinda like the one ring, where just the presence of it causes people to loose their mind a little bit. Sonic wouldn't be affected then because he's not that easy to manipulate, but the ressistance, where everyone for sure is in a lot of stress it would be easy to manipulate and therefore make copies. For Infinite it's his own call to wanting more power and revange. It would be cool to see who phantom ruby can affect by showing who it can copy. It could be called a phantom sickness or something, I think it would create a lot of tension in who is real since everyone is paranoid already I think phantom ruby creating whole ass armies out of powerful beings is way to overpowerd, so that's why I got this idea for the phantom sickness. It explores characters weaknesses and could make them develop as people (mobians?) But that's just a loose idea, great video! Keep it up!

I have little to no issues with this game. One small nitpick is that the Doom powers could be explained better. People hated Doom morph cuz the game failed to teach them how to use it properly. Once you actually learn to use Doom morph it’s pretty fun to play with

I'm pretty sure they said Sonic 4 was going to be Amy's movie and that they wanted to do her character justice, so the whole thing is probably gonna be Amy-related. (I would kinda love if they showed a different dynamic with her and Metal Sonic. I really like their christmas special and making them slightly different than the games would be pretty cool to divert expectations)

Small critique, add music. The lack of sound may seem “unprofessional” so maybe think of adding some tunes in the background of your videos. Also maybe talk more confidently, it sounds like you’re mumbling, but besides those it’s really good.

Personally, I don't care about Silver and I don't want it to get overcrowded. I would rather get a cameo at the most from and or Sally Acorn in the bad future. I want movie 4 to focus on Amy and Metal Sonic. We might get Rouge but even that's a stretch. Movie 3 already struggled with pacing; adding Amy and Metal will be plenty in my opinion. Plus the executives only give Fowler so much freedom to introduce new characters because they want to play it safe.

I love the game's meter management mechanics with boosting and chaos controling but I also love the advanced movement tech, things like Spear-Gliding and the quickside move, truly a masterpiece
