I think ego’s get hurt but when friends bond like these two it’s easy to overcome. Sometimes it’s about timing within the song and the date.

Since one or two of you might not know this? Rick & Sam are as close as they are because Rick covered Sammy's hit "I've Done Everything For You" & if memory serves? Had an even bigger hit with it than Sam had. I think before they met the press would always ask Sam if he knew or liked Rick & how Sam felt about Rick covering his song & having it chart higher than Sam's take did. At the outset I think Sam wasn't super happy about it but I think when he started getting royalties from Rick's cover? He came around. Usually? Sam reminds everyone that it's really his song not Rick's. It's one very few covers Rick's ever really needed to do. He's a helluva songwriter and singer himself. So the cover was rare. But it kinda rankled Sam until he saw the royalties and I think ultimately they became the great friends as you see in this video. I do suspect Sam just figures all his fans also know Rick and Rick's cover of Sam's song. Probably at least partly why he didn't make a thing about it here. Anyway. I do remember that in interviews with Rick? He was always deferential to Sam since it's Sam's song. Also very respectful to Sam about the song. (I love the song. Both versions although maybe love Rick's version a little more? What I find most interesting? Musically? The song just feels like "I Can't Drive 55." Be humming the one & the other one just pops into my head. Similar chord progression or riffs? Anyway. Not a guitarist just going by what I hear.) Nicely done by both gentlemen. I do think Rick plays it in a slightly higher key? Than Sam typically sings it in. But Rick's voice here was just truly amazing. Still has the range. (And a very EARLY Happy Birthday to the great Sammy Hagar, as his birthday is October 13th. Turns 76 this year and he's still rocking. Looks like the celebration was an awesome one. If that concert was any indicator.)

Check your description - 3 Lock Box was not the 3rd studio solo album by Sammy Hagar. He had a string of them on Capitol Records (in addition to live albums), before switching to Geffen. On Geffen, it's his 2nd studio album, sandwiched between Standing Hampton and VOA. HSAS came in that timeframe also.

I just turned 53 and still look in my 30s. Some of us are very lucky. I even sound young as well. I remember when mtv used to play this all the time. Been a fan of ricks since the early 80s. My first show was 1983 at the meadowlands when I was 13 during the living in Oz tour. It was a magical show. I still remember they opened with affair of the heart and Rick coming down this huge flight of steps to the stage. Glad I had the chance to get a backstage pass and got to have my photo with Rick and meet the band and have Rick and the band sign two of my programs one being from ricks show in 1983. He was super cool and laid back. Thank you Rick and happy bday to Sammy. Great way to celebrate.
