@@Smoothbassman I am getting another bass soon and I really like this orange color. Found a good deal on this same one used. In your personal oppinion, do you think ill be missing out on much if I do not get a PJ configuration? Thanks so much
@Smoothbassman

@@kylesmith5893 Hey! Man I’m pumped that you’re getting some new gear! It’s a solid bass. It definitely filled a sonic need in my arsenal. Before this one I had a PJ and got rid of it for this one. Not because it was bad, I’m just personally not a fan of the PJ sound. It had a more nasal tone to it, and it just didn’t “fit” what I was doing at the time. Hopefully this helps!

How do I get sustain on notes like you do?
@Smoothbassman
@Smoothbassman 3 ай бұрын
I guess it’s the culmination of a few things. It all starts in your hands. Strike the string with confidence and have the discipline to just hold the note. A little saturation and compression helps with the sustain and “fill in” the space sonically. But again.. 90% is just technique.

Just subbed to the patreon… picked up a bass 3 weeks ago and am learning the fret board, playing along to songs that my church’s worship team does out here in Chicago, well the suburbs of Chicago… lol it’s a lot of fun but can be intimidating. I play along to the music on chart builder/music stand. But it’s more of just simple chords not every strum on each string. Going to be watching your videos and taking notes! Pray I can jam like you eventually and worship with my father who sings and my younger brother who’s on the keys! God bless bro!

4:37 sweet lick!! i gotta steal that. found you through a very old reverb post, selling the bassmods big phatty 5 - just curious why you replaced those and with what?
@Smoothbassman
@Smoothbassman Жыл бұрын
I appreciate it! I ended up replacing the big phatty’s with Aguilar single coil. They sounded great, but unfortunately i ended up selling that Bassmods bass and got a Sire V7 2nd gen. The reason being, the Bassmods just had too modern of a sound and feel, and at that point, I wanted something that had a more “true” classic jazz bass sound and feel.
@david8694
@david8694 Жыл бұрын
@@Smoothbassman Gotcha, I see. I was just wondering because I have a Sire V7 1st gen modded, from Bassmods. It does sound very modern, very different than my Fenders but not in a bad way and not to say I dislike the Fender tone. Cuts super well, especially when slapping, but unfortunately not much opportunity to slap on CCM though lol. I have not checked if the preamp is stock or something else, but I believe my pickups are big phattys. Got it second hand so idk, sounds solid and plays beautifully though. Anyways, crazy what incredibly good basses you can get under a budget nowadays, the Sires are no joke.

@@david8694 nice! Would love to hear how it sounds. I’ve done some modifications to mine as well. Just around the start of the year I installed a Sadowsky preamp in mine. Definitely very different from the stock Sire preamp. Sadowsky gets that “true” jazz bass tone right. I lit took some time to get used to it tho.

@@Smoothbassman yeah sure here's a clip, running active through my HX Stomp which is simply some compression, an IR I made myself, plus some saturation - drive.google.com/file/d/1TzOGKpDE0MzJRI7XrlzKD8wdLukvwBi6/view?usp=sharing The Sadowsky tone sounds great to me. I got a bunch of Fenders but would love to check out a Sadowsky.
