I visited Virunga national park a few years ago and we went on a gorilla trek. We found them after 4 hours and while I admit we didn't get this close, the troop didn't mind us being there at all. As per our guide if we keep quiet keep our distance and remain visible at all times there is nothing to fear, as gorillas are very predictable and docile (unlike other great African apes like the chimpanzees that attack on a whim). Sadly, none of the members of the group approached us as this fella and he is a silverback! I know it must have been scary at the time seeing him just coming through like that but goddamnit I ENVY YOU!

Gorillas are only aggressive if they feel threatened, Move slow, don't make eye contact, keep low and treat them with respect and they will not harm you.

The gorilla had the strength to simply push the humans out of his way, but simply chose to wait until they moved. This fella has a lot more patience and manners than most people in a supermarket. Really love these animals.
