The year was 1973, I was 18 and a rookie firefighter in Soho Street Fire Station in Glasgow, Jim’s father was Larry Diamond, a Station Officer, he was of small build like Jim, but had the heart of a lion, after two years I moved to another Station nearer my home. One day we got the news the Larry, who had now retired, had bought a brand new Mini for him and his wife to enjoy their retirement. Tragically Larry was killed in this car, his wife died shortly after. The Diamond family story was a truly sad one one with Jim also dying so relatively young..it wasn’t until the 80s that I discovered that Jim was Station Officer Diamonds’s son. I just knew him as Jim Diamond of PHD fame and assumed that it was just his stage name.

My father also joined the Glasgow fire service at 18, in 1964. He always spoke very highly of Larry Diamond as a mentor and as a great guy. I remember him playing I Should Have Known Better to my brother and I as kids. "I know this guy. I work with his dad!" We were children and completely indifferent! Now we're adults, our father has passed on and Jim's music brings back a lot of happy memories. R.I.P Dad/Jim/Larry ✌️🎵🚒

I'm sure I heard this theme at a Rave in the 90s :D they based the story of the abusive and murdered father on my sister's nearby neighbour in Stevenage who was buried in the garden by his daughter and wife, only discovered after a dispute over a hedge.

When they had to play looooong extended credits for whatever reason (omnibus or end of year etc) they started the music at 00:25 faded in.. Anyone know if they ever played it longer than that?

this theme tune is very comforting and you could listen to it for hours
@adrianpritchard7391 Жыл бұрын
which is ironic as it was probably the least comforting soap on TV. It definitely didn't plod along for months with someone worrying about the sheep in the big field!

I met Jim back in Aberdeen in the 70's I think it was, when he sang for Gully Foyle and I help the roady Bruce while the played in the north east Scotland. They had just finished a tour of Europe. All the band were great people but I did form a bond with Jim. When Gully Foyle played at the Beach Ballroom in Aberdeen Jim split his trousers and I landed up giving him my blue velvet flares and thereafter I had to stay backstage standing in my underpants. Jim was a great person and listening to him sing back then I knew he would go far. I was deeply saddened at his passing, but pleased he made what he wanted from his life and gave so much pleasure to so many people.

Thanks Ms and Mr Williams that's a brilliant documentary and shows heaps of bits I'd never seen. For 10 months in 1971 I was drummer in Jim's first major professional band called Gully Foyle and never lost touch with him. We were all Scottish and toured all over Europe where we had heaps of fun and games. I always got angry that Scotland never really took to Jim's voice and music which is ridiculous when Runrig Donny's voice was the equal of Jim's. I received another letter from Jim not long before he died which showed how sad he was that Scotland never really picked him up. He always said he was a crap speller but his music cancelled that out. Here's a last paragraph showing his feelings about Scotland. I'm starting to haver thanks for your kind words about my work it means a lot as for scotland I sad to say the media air brushed me out of there history along time ago.Thank god for Europe North and South America ect ect so as you would now say Ian no worries I wil survive but like I say I'm sad because they are my people. Most people have never heard it but he wrote a fabulous song called Caledonia which should have been released as a single as it beats Dougie MacLean's folk song any day. Why didn't Jim release it? Here it is: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r4Pcfnewn7SElZY

Thank you so much for your kind words and the additional information about Jim. He was a wonderful human being and a great friend to me and my wife (the narrator on this documentary). My wife JJ tragically died suddenly at the age of 31 last September. Jim's family were so kind to me when she died and offered a lot of support. Caledonia, I know it well. It was the B-side to I Sleep Alone At Night, but it should have been a single in its own right. Thanks again, my friend, and kind regards, Al

@@LittleFableOfficial Jim was a typical Glaswegian where he could be a wee toughie... went for me with a hammer once ... but was my wee red haired mate in the band. Great that he looked after you and JJ. He was a really lovely bloke so your wife must have been a good friend. She and Jim died suddenly so they must have had an affinity.

Long story coming, so understand if you have to skip it, kind youtuber. Years ago, I was once at an event with my Granddad. He was driving a lorry in a sort of parade, with several other haulage firms trying to win the competition I think for best float in show. I remember very little of this event, as I was approximately eight years old at the time. I remember lying flat on the floor of the lorry's trailer, gazing out at all the passers buy, and even had my photo taken with another young lad who was there, as well as all the Westbrooks staff who were on the float. Later on that day when I was standing on the path, a teenaged lad rode passed on a bycycle, and threw something frisbee like to my feet. When I bent down to pick it up, I saw it was a record, and old lp, with the Brookside logo printed on the centre. Not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth, I promplty took it home, and occasionally listend to it on my record player, long since gone now. I was never a massive fan of Brookside when I was a child, but I still remember being in my late teens and twenties, sitting on my Nan's couch next to her at 3PM saturday afternoons, watching Brookside with her towards the end. Both Grandparents are saldy gone, but hearing the theme as well as so many things reminds me of both, as it intertwines two separate memories. Thanks for uploading, and for reading. x
