This is how I remember the Deltics, in their final years before the space-age HSTs took over. Although at the time I viewed the HSTs as the future and Deltics as recycled frieght locos, I now see how so many people miss them as in turn our miss ourValenta powered journey shrinkers. It was a strange sight going out on training trips with HST sets that hadn't even seen fare paying passengers and hadn't even had the protective plastic pulled off the carpet and now seeing htem shipped off for scrap and- worse- being sent to hobly gobly land as second class traction. Now to be replaced by trains from Japan that have torture devices for seats.

Great video I remember the class 50s use to travel on them every day back in 88,89. From Banbury to Oxford . I worked on the Pway then. Use to go down to Reading and London Paddington on my days off. Did venture down to Exeter but that was on a HST. Still on the Railway now but rarely travel on trains. All these multiple units they are just plan old boring. Bring back the Loco hauled trains 👍👍👍👍

Thanks for a great video. Have you got any of the original photos/negatives? I'm looking for a print for my Dad's upcoming birthday - he remembers trainspotting around 5D in the late 50s. Obviously I'd pay you! Let me know if we can work something out

Thank you for sharing the photos and videos of the North Staffordshire Railway. The Chief Engineer during its expansion in the late 1800s to early 1900s was my 2nd cousin 4x removed George James Crosbie Dawson. The North Staffordshire Railway Study Group published an article about him in their Journal #51 written by Mike Fell O.B.E. I was able to assist him with some notes from our family genealogy for the article. They have some nice photos to go with it for those interested in the history of the NSR.

25th January 1992 - Network Navigator charter. I believe before this the last time a 50 was in Portsmouth was January 1991 - 50046 Ajax hauling the last passenger service out of Portsmouth to Plymouth which I was on. Saw this charter at Fratton and depart Portsmouth Harbour. Nice bit of footage, thanks for sharing.

Wow!! What a truly amazing video, showing just what BR was like in the early 90s... slightly unkempt but full of character and interest and just getting on with the job. I was never massively into 50s (awaits lightning bolt!!) because I'm a northerner and never really saw them, but videos like this show me what I missed. Great work 👍

1992 must have been the last year for the Class 20s in the Midlands; I can't recall them after then but their decline was gradual so we didn't notice until the last were withdrawn. I remember that a pair of 20s worked the last train from Thurcroft Colliery in that year and 1993 saw a few further runs to Skegness but with the dedicated railtour locos...

Beautiful brickwork. A real architectural gem. I'm not sure exactly where it was but I'll pull out my historic maps of Stoke and have a look. So many interesting and historic buildings seem to have been lost in Stoke on Trent, so much that the very character of the place has gone. My mum said the other day, 'If my granddad was dropped in Shelton today he wouldn't recognise the place.' Imagine the old roundhouse as a small concert venue for instance.
@PurityVendetta2 жыл бұрын
My mum took me to see the last steam loco come through Stoke station in perhaps 1966 but sadly I was too young to remember it. My 'Uncle' Cyril was a driver on mainline express trains but he died when I was very young.
