Anyone struggling with this test should know that the government have made a big mistake with this irrelevant and nonsense arithmetic test that further discourages wannabee teachers in the UK. I've an hons degree in maths with a strong A-level in maths as well as at GCSE and I find some of these questions very challenging in the timescale given. In particular, I have empathy for those potentially great teachers, who struggle with maths, and who have other great gifts, and want to teach non-mathematical subjects. If it was Gove who bought this in, he needs stringing up.

i think its so silly! the maths i am fine with after some months of revision (although its not at all my strongest subject) but some of them are so wordy to comprehend in the short time scale! I'm glad it's not just me that thinks this, many of us will have never even had to do mental arithmetic in this manner. Doesn't mean we don't understand or couldn't teach the maths. My test is in a few weeks, fingers crossed I can get through it!

this is great I got half of them right I have my test tomorrow is there any more practise mental arithmetic questions like this I can do? without going to the DfE website as ive done them so many times i am starting to get familiar with the questions.

Thank you so much. I've downloaded the resources which look very useful. I'm planning to take the test next year so I need to practise from now as Maths is not one of my strengths especially mental arithmetic 😆
