Love the rover course :) Got through first time at 180km/h limit, absolutely wiped out on the final checkpoint at max of 360km/h! I'd taken a lot of damage by then and that last checkpoint just throws me into its crossbar where I have no wheels (or roll bar) to protect me! Took your suspension strength tip and while I hit the last checkpoint again there was a lot more of my rover left so I could turn round and try again. That time nothing significant broke off. I've been doing 40km endurance tests at 1g, which has been great to iron the kinks out, but even with a gps to aim at it means a completely different route each time. This course should help my testing be more consistent. Also nice to see my rover is durable at 1.2g. The only problem I had with the course is navigating the checkpoints when I'm at full speed and flying over half of them, and my rover doesn't even have thrusters! Probably easier in 3rd person but I like being in the driving seat and often can't see which way to go mid-air, or just outright sail over a few checkpoints. We really need the ability to tune our suspension so we don't bounce so much, I'd love my rover to behave like the dakar trophy trucks when it comes to landing after a lot of air time.
@ShiftyshadowTV2 күн бұрын
Nice, glad you're enjoying the course. Yeah, it's definitely set up for default speeds. Any faster and its hard to make turns or land in time. Holding spacebar (brake) briefly when you land reduces bouncing a lot, but I also wish there was a better way.

I have to admit, i rarely see ships in the workshop that are worth redesigning/polishing. About one half is already perfect and more complex than even i would build them and almost all of the rest a basic Bricks/Crap. Great video btw.

Thanks. Yeah, there's not a lot of middle of the road builds. One way to find them is to look at very old builds. Ones that were top of the line at the time often have a lot that can be improved now, especially if you have a lot of DLC.

How can I create all the components of a project automatically? Or do I have to tell what I need and do it manually?
@ShiftyshadowTV8 күн бұрын
There are some mods which can help (Projector to Assembler comes to mind), but in the base game there's nothing to make it easier. I make an educated guess how much I'll need of everything. After a bit you get a feel for it. Always best to overestimate what you'll need.

I couldn't help but notice that both AI methods seemed to have continuous firing of 3-4 small thrusters the entire way up (looks like flickering, but I assume the opposite sides are firing when our side is off). I wonder if thrust limiting your side thrusters to minimum or near-minimum would significantly reduce fuel consumption. A quick wiki check (might be wrong) suggests that 3.5 thrusters uses ~80% of a large thruster of fuel, so you might be looking at 50% or greater savings from just that (likely greater because during the latter half of flight, the maneuver thrusters are firing considerably more than the down thruster). I love using scripts, but I could see some people appreciating having an efficient hands-free non-script method that's pretty simple. You might also consider for all waypoint based methods describing how to get a space waypoint from the ground (the math is "simple" but its a few steps including one or two that will scare people away... It might not be the right content for your channel. Here's a quick list: 1) take a home gps "A" and a gps in the air "B" directly above any distance id go maybe 100m 2) B-A gets you a direction D (just subtract the x's, y's, and z's, and make sure you do B-A not A-B) 3) normalize D (this one I'd use a calculator for, it just reduces the length of D to be 1, while retaining the direction. typing 'normalize 3d vector calculator' into google gets you multiple sites that can do this. It's just 3d Pythagorean theorem (square root of (x²+y²+z²)) and then dividing D's x/y/z each by the result if you really want to do it manually) 4) multiply D by ~44,000 from sea level according to wiki to get your full direction change (This is just multiplying all 3 x/y/z of D by 44,000). 5) A + D to get your final destination waypoint (again, just add the x/y/z's respectively) As a test I just did this in my pre-spaceflight survival world and wound up with a gps that visibly is directly overhead, but is quite a bit further away (20km) than called for so maybe the wiki info I used is incorrect for heights, my base is on a mountain, but not a 20km mountain i don't think. Using a system like you did for the test that turns off the booster and the ai (but not stockpile the tank) could get the ship to stop using dampeners before the waypoint so this method could still work nicely for people. Overshooting space would also not be too big a deal. I could also just redo the math with a smaller scalar now that I know 44000 was about double what I needed. Total process including capturing the coords and googling a calculator was a couple minutes, but I do already mostly know what I'm doing so YMMV.

Make a timer block for your AI task block configuration to periodically shut off fuel to the dampening thrusters by turning them off and then after some time, turn them back on to make flight corrections. Dampeners on, one timer feeding into another timer. Repeat that cycle in which ever interval yields the highest efficiency by limiting the amount of fuel the AI is maximally able to consume. Configure timer blocks or event controller for launch sequence ensuring maneuvering thrusters initiate on first cycle, and immediately with full primary thrust...... Install nose mounted camera and sensor to detect in proximity and trigger warhead payload. GPS target or lock on capabilities, sensor delayed heavy armor tipped. Gotta love this game

@ShiftyshadowTV24 күн бұрын
@@aurorabora7557 Yeah, you'd have to detach all the subgrids, blueprint them all, and print them separately. Or make a blueprint of them all attached to some sort of framework (like you get in model kits) and then print that. Either way, some assembly required.

i think that if you were going to update this video, you would want to mention the existence of the "conveyor convertor" block, which solves the issue that you had with the survival kit at 20:16 (and does so in a very compact manner) In my experience teaching newer players how to build in SE, i've noticed that a lot of them overlook the convertor, probably because it's only available for small grid.

For your welder wall, instead of the button: 1) a sensor with its detection volume slightly larger than the area of effect of the welders 2) set the sensor to "detect small grid ships" 3) turn off "detect players", "detect neutral" and "detect hostile 4) first action slot: welders on 5) second action slot: welders off now all you have to do is fly up to the welder wall. no fiddling with buttons, and the wall shuts itself off automatically as soon as you move away.

Even easier .. just put two 'Nanobot Build and Repair System - Original Resources' (mod 3099489876 in the workshop) down on either side of the projector and make sure they are set to weld closer items first. You can even use the programable script 'Nanobot Build and Repair System Queuing / Display / Scripting' (mod 867822734 in the workshop) to automatically put items you don't have in storage into the production queue. I use 2 of them because they can be slow, but they can build subgrids just like the regular ones .. and they don't miss even the most intricate details. They will also repair any damaged items every time you are in range. You will still need a repair bluepriont for any completely destroyed items, but not for only damaged items. The only issue is they can be slow, which is why I use 2 (or even 3) of them. Combine this with 'PAM Auto-mining script' and 'Isy's Inventory Manager' and you can automate building many itema in various locations.

I am the one guy who likes climbing ladders. Mostly because I play a lot with a super nerfed jetpack so flying isn't an option in gravity and a long spiral staircase is much more painful to me than a ladder. That and I do like the animation for it. Most games don't bother with making a solid climbing animation and it's a bit wasted in SE as most people will just fly up instead. So it's nice to give it some use. But I don't like ladders when it's just 1 or 2 blocks or a route I travel a lot. They do take longer than stairs and the space saved isn't worth adding 10+ seconds every time I want to go up the ladder so having stairs is what I choose there.

These are all tips that are very useful if you happen to need them, but most of them i never really needed them (fortunately) and the ones i did need i made them up myself, the periscope being my favourite, inspired in MBT's commander sights, specially the ones that extend like a stick on top of the turret. Also, the ones for building and repairing with a grid i never used them since i haven't advanced that far into the game just yet, so yeah (I got ~380 hours in Space Engineers but it's almost all of it in building tanks in creative, so not much experience with ships and good looking design, my experience and knowledge is mostly if not purely in ground vehicles and machines and that sort of stuff) Still, pretty neat tips those you complied right there! 😁👍 (Edit:) Also, by the way, i got so many functions set for the main Pilot in my builds that i got almost all 10 slots on all 10 hotbars used up for something, each turret or mechanical arm SECTION having an entire hotbar set up for each little movement. Soon gonna be needing custom hotbar counts up to 20 if not even 30 or 40 (Or playing with friends in multi-crew vehicles but i am too lonely to afford that, so i'll just make up for it with my German overengineering skills)

i use thrusters for forward/backward assist on heavy builds or to help my craft climb up mountains. ones facing down will stick you to the ground and can be rather handy for stability at high speeds, or rovers that can legit drive up 90 degree walls. This is a great guide overall. I always make wheel wells, i dont fully armor the suspension pieces because it causes that annoying bug where turning locks the wheels. If that happens, if you delete a block and re-add it, tends to un-mess up the wheels though. prevention is worth a mountain of cure here though. i have had to rip apart completely and fully redo wheels because of that. survival kits are good on things like apc's, not something for every rover/tank though. whichever you build thats a carrier for multiple people should have your survival kit. that or unless you're building specifically a mobile spawn center. easymode way to build: make a frame and configure where you want the wheels, then build everything up from there. Its entirely your choice, some people find it easier making a frame first. building the guts first tends to end in allot of bricks with wheels when you first start building in SE. This dude is 10000% correct about wheel amount, more wheels = more power. especially if you're building something very heavy. the more the merrier. if you have a super small and light craft, its not needed but will still help P.S. good on you including half block for bottom armor. you always want the most clearance with as little surface to snack on terrain. You should recommend the energy shield mod (the shields, not the fields). a tiny shield generator really goes a long way at negating collision damage. but i guess thats more advanced.

easy way to check for damage is press k in cockpit and type "inc" it will bring up all red items
@ShiftyshadowTVАй бұрын
That works for a lot of blocks, but that won't work for everything. For example, conveyors will never show up in the menu and you need them to be functional. They also won't show up as "missing" in the projector as long as the block's frame is still there (even if they are dysfunctional). Generally it's not a problem if the grid is small enough for welders to reach the entire interior.

@ShiftyshadowTV I see. how about just going by weight? my main boy is 201000 kg with ice and ammo, quick check after a hit tells you roughly how much damage has been done. arty shells seems to take about 6000kg off per hit.
