Many people use the fact that metro atlanta isn't very dense as an argument against transit. I don't think that's a valid point. Most residential areas in atlanta are low density, but there are many high density employment centers and a lot of people underestimate the park n ride system of using transit. Also keep in mind that this could affect future land patterns. With an expanded transit system, people and business alike will move near transit, preventing traffic from worsening in the future

I agree that Atlanta needs help with its transportation infrastructure - but is it true that the construction is scheduled to start in 2020?

Even the spokesman is only talking about road improvements and he lives in Roswell.... The Burbs! I moved downtown to be within 2 miles of work. You know, Jimmy, you could park at the end of the Red Line and MARTA it in. Then you avoid the 75/85 problem you are standing in front of. Ever think YOU might be the problem. YOU are creating the traffic. There are up to 7 lanes of interstate in one direction in some places. You CANNOT widen any more!

I am voting NO! 9% Sales Tax and it is mostly road projects in the burbs! Where is the innovation in that. Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Use your brains guys!

You need very high densities in order to make that a viable option. I don't think many people would support demolishing their homes (even if they could make money). Land use and transit work in conjunction. I agree with you, it'd be nice. There is not really one U.S. city I really like and much prefer overseas cities (Amsterdam, Paris, Buenos Aires).

There are economics principles at work to help alleviate congestion. It's far from stealing.

You'll never solve mobility by building more highways and adding lanes to existing ones. That IS the problem, not the solution.

well this is the only way it's gonna get solved now. the alternative.. raise the fuel tax giving the GDOT the right to do whatever the hell they want to with it, rather than now where we have an actual balanced project list. Vote YES July 31. We'll get traffic relief, more transportation options, and more economic development.

Yet another tax to fix a problem that should have been planned properly decades ago.

well to further expand the transit network, we're counting on federal funding after the TIA is approved. and although the feds of course have some pretty bad deficit problems, if you look at were they're loosing they're money, it's not on transportation. Plus USDOT Secretary Lahood made it clear that if we pass this thing, more federal dollars will be on the way.

well by voting yes, you're not. your giving it to the atlanta regional roundtable who will be monitored by a citizen oversight committee. There is a set list of projects so you won't just be throwing your money into the general fund. we know what we're gonna get out of it. Check out the project list at the ARC website

the TIA would provide roadway, pedestrian/bicycle, transit, and aviation improvements in Fulton, Dekalb, Douglas, Fayette, Cobb, Gwinnett, Rockdale, Cherokee, Clayton, and Henry counties.

You keep telling about how this will affect Atlanta and surrounding area and that it is a multi county plan. What counties are to be affected??? I have not seen a list of counties in cluded with any cocerage of this plan. WHY NOT?????

Put the money into public transportation instead: add more routes to MARTA bus lines, decrease ticket price and arrange for week/month passes at a major discount for daily commuters, buy smaller buses, improve bike lanes, far better in the long run. It's been proven that more lanes adds more traffic. Gas will never get cheaper, let's face it.

… (1) The Atlanta/Georgia State governments STOLE lanes on Interstate highways charging citizens to use these lanes WE HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR and divert that money into their General Funds. (2) Though the toll road, GA-400, has more than met its required costs and the toll booths should have been shut down, the government made the decision to continue charging citizens for the use of that road sending that wealth into their General Fund coffers. I don't trust giving them any more money!

I would like to see a metro system in Atlanta created very similar to the Metro in Paris, France--quick, convenient transit throughout the city as well as outside the city limits. One can easily take the Metro to one of the train stations for a relaxed trip to another city within and outside of France. Little to no stress. A couple of things stick in my craw, however. ...

I believe that the city of Atlanta would grow so much and would prosper in such a large scale if we could perhaps extend MARTA to Gwinnett and a couple of other counties or perhaps just better the public transportation as a whole. I do not understand why this is such a controversial topic, to me it is common sense. I work downtown and I have to drive a long distance to Doraville to ride the train. Hopefully they will approve this project for the better of our state and our capital city.

It may not be perfect, but I really hope this passes because it will be a great start to getting much needed funding for transit -- for MARTA, the Beltline, and other initiatives. Who knows? Maybe afterward the state may be motivated to chip in more financial support! (ok maybe not, but it's good to dream) We support Atlanta transit solutions: forums.smartamarta(dot)com
