Why can a JV team and a Varsity team from the same school both compete with the other Varsity teams at a competition? This does not seem fair to the other Varsity teams. This happened at the Johnston County Competition last year. The Varsity and JV teams from the same school took 1st and 2nd place so they had double the chances of any other school. If there is only one JV team then they should compete by themselves not compete with the other Varsity teams. I don't care if they do the competitions with the other Varsity teams but they should get their own places and medals not take away from other Varsity teams.

Thanks for the question! We have a policy for multiple teams that you can review here - ncscienceolympiad.ncsu.edu/about-us/policies/multiple-teams/

Great video. Just one minor correction. The device you're showing is a TMP36 temperature sensor, not a thermistor. A thermistor (think thermal resister) is a two terminal device. I just want to make sure people are not confused by the difference

Hi. That's helpful tip. I have made a simple coney backslider rocket to test(the one with a long paper cone). I want to know if the backslider rocket is also tested (before launch) by swinging it around with a string to see if it is always moving nose first? Will that be needed for a nose up ascent? Or one only tests the descent portion with the backsliders and they always go nose up during ascent? Does ur rocket move nose first during swing test? Thanks.

Cool video & design! Is there a cut list available? Are you selling kits? Nicely done.
@NCSciOlympiad5 жыл бұрын
Hi Donald, you can purchase a breaker at www.sciencenc.com/product/breaker/. We do not have a current cut list but we plan on developing a list of supplies and instructions by early October. Thanks!

This is literally the dumbest event lmao. It’s a competition of spending. The team that spends the most money on the best insulator wins.
@blazenightvault5 жыл бұрын
Nope bud, its the team with the most accurate prediction wins. You can have a bad insulator but precise prediction and win.
@fujinyumi56325 жыл бұрын
Iahk Oh really? Huh you’re right. It’s been a while since I’ve done science Olympiad. The heat score practically means nothing.
@fujinyumi56325 жыл бұрын
Iahk Wait no, I was right to begin with. The most you can get in this event is 20 for the heat score. With a terrible insulator you may only get around 7. This is actually a terrible event. The test is okay, but the build portion is terrible.

I would really recommend against having any Event Supervisor or volunteer handle the impounded device. Sometimes students bring in some rickety devices.
