2 days left of 2024 and I grew up with this music from my Mom. 61 now and It was a time that music & dance was king. Elks, Moose and VFW clubs was a time that my Mom would meet her friends there for a night of living young again. In my early 20’s at the time, I would stop in and get a lesson from some of my Moms friends. lol I miss seeing Mom enjoying herself and reliving the old days.

That bass was electric I believe. Maybe it was just mic'ed but either way it was amplified.

Music from the "Greatest Generation". My Momma used to play this record slick, back when I was a kid... the flip side of the record was "Chattanooga Choo Choo"... also played slick, and equally burned into my memory. I turned 76 yesterday and the songs are still as fresh to me as they were when I was a tyke. Good, wholesome and upbeat music!

Can you imagine how much more beautiful your day in town would be if today’s teenagers played this on their phones rather than the noise you hear vomiting out of their tiny tinny speakers? I don’t care what the do-gooders say, today’s teenage tuneless offerings pale by comparison. I mean, rap? All it’s missing is a carefully placed letter C.

Wait until you see if you agree that hometown gal's the only one for me. A, B, C, D, E, F, G, I've got a gal from Kalamazoo !! That's such a great song about a great girl from one of my home states greatest cities, Kalamazoo, Michigan. 😊😊

I was born and raised in Michigan. My mother was born on December 21st, 1934 in Detroit. She was 8 years old in 1942. That was the year the movie Orchestra Wives was released. My favorite song from the movie is I've Got a Gal From Kalamazoo. Hey there, Tex , how's your new romance, the one you met at the campus dance ? I don't want to boast, but I know she's the toast of Kalamazoo. I'll make my bid with that freckle faced kid I'm hurrying to. A, B, C, D, E, F, G, I've got a gal from Kalamazoo !! I'm 70 years old and I really enjoy all of those wonderful songs from the 1940's, the years that my mother grew up. 😊😊

Whenever Larry Hooper was going to be on the Lawrence Welk show my Aunt Gladys would call us Person to person collect for Larry Hooper and we would always, of course, say he wasn’t there and let the neighborhood know to be sure and watch that night…we would also call different people collect and person to person and they would say he wasn’t there to let them know throughout the country and world - in this way within an hour the whole civilized world knew her next door neighbors son would be on that night. The ratings were always waay higher on those nights somehow.

In the days before desegregation was a reality, they were already doing it in the realm of jazz music entertainment as evidenced by Glen Miller providing the segway for the Nicholas Brothers to dance and upstage the band and singers altogether!
