this is definitely the coolest pair scissors i've ever seen

I am not wealthy, but when I see something handmade and done well, I try to contribute how I can. I purchased the hummingbird embroidery scissors. I use them for more than that, and the angle, tension, feel, and motion is excellent. Love the handmade look and feel. Great presentation, again. Unfortunately I cannot justify buying much more, but the product, presentation, and quality make me happy to contribute just a bit to this company. If I knew before, I wouldn't have restored antique American scissors(Blue Ribbon Cutlery is one of the best tailor scissors I've ever used), and Ghinger for upholstery, large tailor scissors(I use for veneer), and general purpose sheers. I did the repair(putting) myself. I restore antiques for a living, so I know the secrets to a perfect assembly and performance (no, can't move to Sheffield to help. lol). As perfect as handmade can be. Proud to have all handmade scissors, whether US, English, or German. I may just yet buy some Wright upholstery sheers once in stock. Tough decision considering the German ones I worked on took me a day before the slick "shhhhh-chic" and testing on thread to folded up towels. Back to tip had to cut flawlessly before I stopped working on the blade's angles and sharpening. They had been poorly sharpened and the blades bowed too much to keep a small distance at the back when closing (leaving a gap pinching fabric). When done they sound like Wright scissors. Heck, I'll buy a pair at some point sooner than later. Never know when the German upholstery sheers might get angry and snap. Haha To anyone with their grandfather's scissors, please do not just peen them tighter or tighten the screw if they are in bad shape. Take them apart, stone sharpen to a fine edge, then get to work carefully putting the blades with a composite mallet or brass hammer(if needed). Use a leather pad to rest the blade where the issue is and gently get the contact perfect.

Go get a pair! After seeing this, I ordered a set for myself from Alabama. The hummingbird scissors from their direct website. The presentation is wonderful. I've restored high end US and German scissors for most of my antiques restoration work, but to support this company I purchased the beautiful hummingbird embroidery scissors. They are great for small general use. Inexpensive and utilitarian. The only improvement they could make? Go back to punching the brand and model. The laser etch was the only very small disappointment.

Is it ok to oil the joint? Probably not for tailors scissors for obvious reasons, but on general purpose and diy scissors?
@ErnestWrightScissors
@ErnestWrightScissors Ай бұрын
Yes n problem.We recommend Camellia oil or Sewing Machine Oil. Avoid using heavy oils or anything that could attract dirt or gunk up the mechanism. A few drops applied to the joint, followed by opening and closing the scissors a few times to work the oil in, is usually all that's needed. Wipe off any excess oil to keep the scissors clean.

Buy Locally made poducts where you can. These scissors, work of art and made to last a lifetime!!!. Gonna get me a pair of turtons - jusr one, not a pair :-). Hope the company continues to build- love the Putter video from ages ago. A rant about Uk manufacturing - looking for a DE Razor for ages. Me being in Shefield was looking for a razor after gilette adverts went woke stating men were toxic masculinity or something and wanting to buy something local and a long lasting razor found Edwin Jagger double edge safety razors a Sheffield based company. Originally found and tried an old Gilette razor (US company) an England made Gilette razor made in the 60's the version at twist the bottom to open the top to place the blade. Was my dads old razor with some blades, used them for a couple of years (not the blades rusty), DE blades are no longer made in the UK?? . Long lasting units. Made well. Sheffied made - Ernest Wright - you can't go wrong. Ey up to the one like - did you watch the magnet fishers, digging, river wise half made knives and forks from the river Don. MEGATRON River dare would you walk it?. I'd Love to walk in to that maze butt too scared to.

Im proud to be born and bread in Sheffield minutes walk from all the steel and cutlery works, i grew up in netherthorpe in the early 70's and down broad lane to kelham island area was my playground, always had the smell of hot steel and banging from the hammers in the forges. Glad to see earnest wright still carrying on the tradition of scissor making in the heart of Sheffield ✂️❤

I used to collect a lot of various mass-production scissors, because they would stop cutting over time and I had to grab a new pair. Since purchasing my Ernest Wrights, that has stopped and it seems that now I have the only scissors I will ever need. I look forward to ordering the large shears and adding them to EW collection.

A good video, but it didn't move me as much as the original video they made a few years back, when the 'old boys' were still making them (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoi1qJJsiNmjh7M). Truly, that was a great video, even just thinking about it now moves me.

I could not agree more - the original video, instigated by Nick Wright to record the skills employed , it went viral. What followed is well documented and the business is on a much firmer footing. I suspect that neither Nick or Shaun, both no longer with us could have foreseen what impact the video would have to this very day.

Simply awesome and I hope that they’ll go on making scissors for a long time. This is the kind of product that’s needed. No plastic and lasting forever. Buy once, cry once. Highly recommended.

This brought tears to my eyes. As a tradesman with decades of experience I take a lot of pride in the tooling I make with my hands and to watch someone work with such skill and precision, where no motion is wasted and every glance, every turn, every tap is with purpose is a joy to behold. I have a keen understanding of how the decades of experience make it look much much simpler than it is and nothing but respect for these people who work to keep alive this noble and honored business. I just ordered my first pair as a wedding gift for my nephew and expect to be ordering a pair for myself soon as well.

In a world of mass production, it gives me a great sense of nostalgia knowing that there are still companies that make high quality products by hand. It reminds of Nokona Baseball gloves that still does the same in Texas. I’ve ordered two pairs of the Turton scissors and I can’t wait for them to arrive. I encourage everyone to get behind companies like this.
