Would you also splint in a solo situation or not to minimise further muscle movement?
@SurvivalTV
@SurvivalTV 7 күн бұрын
That's a good question, Herb. You're correct that rolling out and applying a splint individually would increase movement, so we would advise not to splint if you were solo. Instead you would stay as still as possible and let help come to you.

4:03 Funnel webs do sometimes have a dry bite? All documentaries and all videos with funnel web spiders by professionals they always say funnel webs don't dry bite, you even see when they rear up to show the fangs they have venom dripping from the fangs. I have never heard any professional say funnel web spiders do dry bites.

We don’t have this information nor these bandages in the US despite having a good number of venomous here. Granted, we don’t have the number nor the sheer variety of animals waiting to kill us like you guys do, but we do have snakes.

Let's say you got out of your car at a swimming hole and walked down the track to look at the water. The scenario is you have been bitten by an Eastern Brown. The snake bite kit is in your vehicle 50 metres away. If all the get out of jail cards are ruled out of the equation. No radio, no phone, no people, no other excuses that allow someone to come to the rescue in the next 10 minutes. Why would you sit or lay down calmly near a tree? There is no help coming and that venom has a 15 to 30 minute window before it kills you... if the bite is a wet bite. I realise that Eastern Brown may dry bite (not envenomate a person)... but, to the best of my knowledge, a Coastal Taipan envenomates with every bite. The risk assessment is straightforward. Sitting still will not save your life if you have been envenomated "unless" an external factor enters the picture. That is a big gamble.... I will just sit here calmly for the next 15 to 30 minutes doing nothing while the venom runs through my body and kills me.... in the hope that a miracle happens before then. The first 3 steps have to be 1. Remove yourself from danger if necessary. 2. Sit down. 3. Figure out how to restrict the venom from moving through your body. If you are wearing a shirt or T-shirt or singlet, or in a very worse case scenario, belt or there is a piece of rope. Tie or wrap the shirt over and just above the bite site. Make the wrapped material at least 3 to 4 inches wide. Tie a stick in the knot and use it to tighten the wrapped material over the bite. You do not need to over tighten it....a bit more than a sprained ankle bandage would be enough. That will get you the 50 metres or 100 metres at a slow walk to your car. 5 to 10 seconds a step. Leave the temporary restriction in place until you have wrapped most of the limb with the proper snakebite bandages. This temporary restriction cannot be left in place. It is a last ditch or I am f*cked emergency measure. Temporary restrictions are dangerous devices. Ideally, they need to be about 3 to 4 inches wide so they don't crush the arteries and veins. The sleeve off a long sleeve shirt is about 4 inches wide. What a person needs to do is wrap whatever around their limb so it is about 3 to 4 inches wide. Then tie the first half of the knot. Place the stick on top of the first half of the knot. Then tie the second half of the knot. They have to come off ASAP or people run the risk of cutting off the blood supply to their limb. However, IN THE CONTEXT OF THE SCENARIO.... that the snake bite kit is in the car 50 metres away, this temporary restriction is going to do the job for the 5 to 10 minutes it takes to get to the car and apply the proper bandages. AT THE CAR. Get the snake bite kite. If you have 1 bandage. Start at the tips of the fingers or toes and wrap up the limb toward the heart... use about 1/2 the bandage up to the temporary restriction. Skip over the temporary restriction and using 1/4 of the bandage, wrap up above the temporary restriction for 6 to 8 inches. Then, remove the temporary restriction and use the remaining 1/4 of the bandage to wrap over the bite site and work up the limb with any spare bandage. If you have 2 bandages. Start the first one just above the temporary restriction and wrap up the limb toward your heart. Get it in place first. Then, get the second bandage and start at the finger or toes toward the heart until just below the temporary restriction. Remove the temporary restriction and continue wrapping the second bandage over the bite site and up the limb toward the heart. Once the bandages are in place and the flow of venom has been restricted, then think about what you are going to do to get rescued and saved. At the end of the day, you can sit calmly against the tree in a remote scenario and do nothing while the venom overcomes your body, or you can try to save yourself. I am not a doctor. This is only my idea the scenario of being bitten by an Eastern Brown or other venomous snake and the snakebite kit is 50 metres away in the car.

In Australia, people who find them in their yard or home are encouraged to call professionals to capture funnel webs so they can milk them of their venom in order to make anti-venom.

Yikes. Let's just say, that I would put all my clothes and shoes etc in plastic containers that locks, so no spider would be able to enter and I'd use spider repellent spray as well. I'm from Europe and we only have the false window spiders to worry about, but in Oz you really have to be careful
