I’m out here on a family holiday at the moment (August) and have hired a bike for a few days to get some rides in. Cap Formentor is one of the most beautiful rides, particularly early morning. Really makes me want to come back in early/late season for a proper cycling holiday (again!)

Tbh, it all depends on what conditions you're used to. My advice is don't listen to anyone, even yourself. Just do whatever the you want to do.

I've had mine on my bike for a few weeks & I'm very happy with it. For the price, there's nothing on the market that can beat it for aesthetics and build quality. It's a bit slimmer than my other 4.5 liter half frame bag, but I wanted something smaller profile to carry my daily essentials (U Lock, cable, windbreaker, mini tire pump & other small items). When I do a longer trip & need to pack more, I use my other bag. But this is a great everyday bag for most riders.

For the price I might get it. Just looking for a bag that's a bit bigger than the 1 liter I have now. Does it in a way of both bottles or just the lower one?
@cramamba2 ай бұрын
Just the lower one but it really depends on your frame size. On my MTB it's not in the way at all. Let me know how you get on if you decide to pick one up ✌️
@mabor8539Ай бұрын
To solve the problem, buy the bottle cage on which you insert and take out bottle from the side and not upwards. Decathlon has them for 6eur a piece I think. It also gives you the option to mount it so that you can take bottle out from left or right side. Sorry for my bad english though 😅

I have this same model. Bought it new a few years out of university, in 96. While I have many bikes from road to gravel, the Cherry Smoke ‘Dale is my go to. I’d love to see a breakdown video of the changes you’ve made to it.

Waterproof down to 18m out of the box so that'll do for me. I did a LOT of research on getting either this or a GoPro 12 and so far I'm very happy with the decision to go DJI.

Makes me wonder if this is decent for about a weeks worth of basic grocery shopping? I feel the one compartment messenger bags with their rolled tops are best for that (concept wise), but most of them are very small sizes. I was originally looking at the velocity, but I think that is a little bit too small with max 24 liters. This one looks almost a little too big though, but that is hard to judge from videos and pictures. I kinda feel they should offer something between this and the velocity, and maybe add some U-Lock attachment points like on the commuter daypack.
@cramamba3 жыл бұрын
I actually regularly use this bag for mid-sized / larger grocery shopping trips and it works well. You can leave the roll top open to fit even more in too. The velocity isn't really that big and wouldn't fit much in terms of grocery shopping. Also, I often attach my u-lock through the hook at the top of the bag (used for hanging it up) 👍

@@cramamba Just dropped the ball on it and did some test packing at home. Volume with closed lid comes pretty close to what I need. But I do see the issues with the side flaps. I think they should probably cut those plastic bars a bit shorter, which would allow you to fold the sides away a bit. Unfortunately I am not sure if you could cut those manually, since a part of it is behind the seam, but maybe it could still cause the ends to become a bit softer or you could cause a break within the bit in the seam. Probably going to try that later on. The bottom strap is actually quite okay if you are on foot, because the weight seems to kinda sit more on your hips that way, which is nice if you get some heavier stuff.
@Dark__Thoughts3 жыл бұрын
Update: That did the trick. Cutters didn't work because the plastic is too soft, so I just dented it, but a small handsaw was good enough - just looks a little hacky. I just cut through in line with the side seam, and now I can kinda fold the sides to the inside before I close the top. Still a little stiff when rolling it up, but the big "ears" on the side are completely gone. No idea why they don't get manufactured like this. And I still think something like a 34 liter variant would be a good fit too.
@Dark__Thoughts3 жыл бұрын
And another update: Did my first real run with it, and I managed to actually fill it so far up that the lid barely closed / rolled over. So, definitely a good size for a weekly run, although I keep a regular shopping bag inside in case I need some more space for lighter weight stuff. Definitely heavy when full, but I guess better to have it on the back, instead of having to carry it in my hands. If I ever get my frame build up I might think about the Velocity for some more frequent / daily runs.

My GF doesn't at all understand my love for Ortlieb bags, neither does she understand why I spend so much on them! She's looking at me watching this video as if I'm some kind of weirdo. Own two of them. One I've owned since the early 2000's! Back when I first started out as a bike messenger, and I still use it for work even today.
