I wonder, did Bernie Taupin write the lyrics to Island Girl after listening to the Rolling Stones' Brown Sugar? Perhaps to try to top Jagger and Richards in trying to write something more edgy, more racially charged, and sexually explicit? This is the 70s, after all, it wasn't an era where you could be obvious, so writing an ode to a Jamaican prostitute, is that more or less lewd than writing about a plantation owner getting it on with his slaves?

What do I got to do to make you love me? What do I got to do to make you care? What do I do when lightning strikes me? And awake to find that you're not there What do I do to make you want me? What do I got to do to be heard? What do I say when it's all over? Sorry seems to be the hardest word It's sad (so sad) so sad It's a sad sad situation And it's getting more and more absurd It's sad (so sad) so sad Why can't we talk it over? Oh, it seems to me that sorry seems to be the hardest word It's sad (so sad) so sad It's a sad sad situation And it's getting more and more absurd It's sad (so sad) so sad Why can't we talk it over? Oh, it seems to me that sorry seems to be the hardest word What do I do to make you love me? Oh-oh-oh What do I got to do to be heard? What do I do when lightning strikes me? What have I got to do? What have I got to do? When sorry seems to be the hardest word

That orchestra and band tore this song up!!! I love this song for the violins and other string instruments!!!!! Wish I would have been there to hear this one. It’s a mixture of gospel, classical and rock.

Robbie said about this song "time is supposed to heal all wounds, except in some cases it dosen't". He was right, this song, the lyrics, Rick's voice, Robbie's guitar playing and Garth's saxophone gives me chills.

I do love this song, I don't quite appreciate Elton John as a singer but I like her even less. She's an amazing singer, extraordinary voice, but I utterly dislike the way she storpia le note. It's a quiet song, melanconic, intimate, a song made to give hope. You are not loud when you do that. You don't yell, you whisper.
