Me growing up with parents who literally never really fought and are still married: "I can't relate to any of this or the comments"

It really took some of the best actor and actress, a great director, excellent screenwriters, etc, in order to make such a memorable scene that came from everyday life of some people perfectly. This shows how much effort and preparations it takes to make a masterpiece.

I have seen it as a kid, the anger the frustration between two people, the verbal fights, that came close to physical ones, the threats to leave each other, the banging on the doors and walls and the silence that followed the night after. The weeks and months of not talking to each other, all while me trying to build scenarios in my head and convince myself with fake reality, making myself believe, that may be my parents may not just have anything to talk and they were not really fighting, but also praying to god that i hope my parents never fight with each other. Fast forward now i have seen myself become a version of them to some extent, atleast in my early twenties, with failed relationships and what not. Its just been last 5 years that i have worked on myself and getting better now, for my kid, trying to be the best vrrsion for my baby!

the screenplay is good but the acting is phenomenal. adding pauses and little quips, leaving some bits out and it just works so well.

Man, I really HATE conflict in my family, and this scene is almost like I had to endure yet another discussion between my parents... hence why I could watch this movie just once... my mind CAN'T with two or more, I'm fed up with conflict in real life (now I can't live peacefully, I'm just waiting for another potential discussion, and mentally crying all the time because of it) Marriage Story = 1000/10 🙌🏻 (kudos 4 it)

them going slightly off script makes the scene feel so much more realistic. the added angry ramble where Charlie claims he already lost his 20s, the silence in the missing line from Nicole, the fact that Charlie doesn't even look up at her to apologize, it all just adds more subtle details to remind you how real their situation is. feels like watching your own parents get a divorce right in front of you.

Two different expectations of two people, and neither fulfills each. Life is so complex. People, emotions, perspectives, desires, and goals change. And once it happens, you are left with what-ifs and disappointment. Keeping a relationship alive is so hard these days.

Some of the comments reminiscing on their parents going through similar things genuinely concerns me. No, like for real. You matter, and so do your parents 🫂
@jess4728Ай бұрын
what's the point of having their dialogue on the same line, if it's not overlapping? arbitrary script-shortening? perhaps it was meant to be overlapping but the director couldn't pull it off?

This is what mourning the loss of love looks like. We tear each other apart in our minds, creating narratives that no one else knows about-until it’s too late. This was some of the most raw and authentic acting and writing I’ve seen in years. I’ve been with my wife for 35 years, and thank goodness we’ve never been this bad-but we’ve come close. If you love someone, talk to them. Share your narrative about how you see your marriage or relationship. You might be surprised by what you discover.
