In Italy we use the shape note, indeed, cause we don't have A B C D... We have Do(low) Re Mi Fa Sol La Si Do(high).

They learn to sing use “solfège" or “solfeggio" - I learned that at Conservatory in the 70’s. I took 5 semesters of this! It’s taught in some some elementary and secondary schools, and in every music school in the US. Wonderful!❤❤

‘An indie art form’ - scuse me will I vomit, and then the idiot narrative over a photo of white kids insists on crowbarring in the word ‘diverse’ - couldn’t just have a group of normal white folks being happy singing unless it was diverse…ffs. I guess it’s all going to come crashing down irrespective of this woke stuff

It's very popular in the Primitive Baptist Church.....(not snake handlers....lol) Old Line Primitive Baptist does not believe in instruments in the church so Acapella is all they do but 4 note " singings" are usually a special event.

Standing in the center of a shaped note sing is more powerful than you can possibly imagine if you've never experienced it. All those voices singing at maximum volume, all directed at you in the center, gets right down into your bones.

I saw them at Cornerstone under a little tent (I think shortly before their accident) and it still stands as the greatest experience I've ever had seeing a band live

One of my great regrets in life was never going to Cornerstone. I always thought it would be there next year, and then it wasn't.
@JennaBelt2 жыл бұрын
Oh my lands!! I was there too!! To date, it still stands as one of my mental landmarks to see them that year at Cornerstone in Illinois. I has just graduated high school and my entire group of hippie Christian friends caravanned for the week to sweat it out in the mosh pits under the tents. What a memory!! I still have their original music and seem to recall their getting signed at the event? Any recollection of that detail? They were simply brilliant live! Long Live Godly Grunge!!

Honestly feeling called out about their description of young people who get into sacred harp music :')
@AmosPressley3 жыл бұрын
The hardest thing about Sacred Harp is explaining it to people that do not know, especially if they are in love with their assumptions. The expression on the man's face at 1:45 sums it up!
