Hi! I didn't understand something fully. So you recomend the Rode wireless more than the ones that go around the face for yoga videos or you recomend both equally? Thanks a lot!
@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto Ай бұрын
Hey, sorry for any confusion and thanks for checking out the video. The rode mic is an amazing place to start, but I would plug a headset mic (one that wraps around the face) for the ULTIMATE quality. Hope that makes sense? *The rode has the option to speak directly into it, but it also has a mic port so you can use accessories with it - such as a headset mic.

Hey! Thanks so much for this video. If I want to use my iphone 8 to record this (which has a lightning port), can I just purchase a standard converter, rather than the one in your video? Would a standard one without the thick cables have an affect on the sound quality? Thanks!
@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto Ай бұрын
Hey Hey! Sorry for the slow reply here. I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to, do you mean the cable that goes from your phone to the rode mic? For that you would need a black to grey cable (amzn.to/3NOLOIE) from your rode mic and to plug that into your phone you'd need a lightening port to 3.5mm headphone jack adaptor (amzn.to/3NPglG1) Let me know if that helps.

🤷🏼‍♂️ Try using something to add a little resistance maybe? Like a roll of tape around the main support and tighter the arm either immediately above or around that? That would give a little more resistance so it won’t drop down anymore.

@RichMaciverPhoto 7 ай бұрын
It really depends on the space you’re working with. But I think 24mm is a safe bet. 50 is more than likely going to be too tight unless you have a huge room! We use 24mm with the (full frame) camera about 4 metres away. Hope that helps.

@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto 8 ай бұрын
Hey! Definitely give it a shot if you can! There’s a few ways really. 1 - If you’re comfortable with your fighter you can go in the cage with them. 2 - If you’re outside of the cage, you can press the camera up against it. Often it’s so close and out of focus it’s barely noticeable, especially with a longer or zoom lens. 3 - you can shoot a little further back from the cage and make a feature of it. *a mixture of all three will make for a great series/story of images also. Hope that helps. Would love to see the results once you get your shoot done!!

Super helpful, thank you! I always have lighting issues so this is great. Do you have any advice for the changing light during the day? Or should you just film on over cast days? I always start filming and then the sun will go in and out and change the lighting on my camera and then I am over exposed for part of my videos when I just want constant light to be the same. I would be super grateful for any advice, thanks so much!
@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto 10 ай бұрын
Hey Bethany! Glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah, the changing light situation is tricky - especially if the sunlight is direct. I would try out using Auto ISO when setting up your camera. This way it should adjust fairly seamlessly without you needing to do anything. And if you want to go into further detail, I would set the "exposure compensation" to just under +1. This should help keep you bright despite the changing light. If you don't know how to do that just google "exposure compensation *name of your camera*" should be pretty straightforward. Hope that helps!

Thanks for the video. How did the the Godox flash talk to the profoto trigger? And does a studio typically supply the C stands and large tripod like support stand? Thanks again for the informative BTS
@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto Жыл бұрын
Hey Simon, thanks for watching! Most flashes have a “slave” mode. Which basically means it watches for other flashes and triggers at the same time - still blows my mind tbh … like … how does it watch and trigger at EXACT the same time haha. Some studios will supply basic stands and maybe a light or two - some times they’ll charge for it and sometimes they won’t. Just depends. Hope that makes sense?
@simonvail458
@simonvail458 Жыл бұрын
Thank you. I had wondered if there was a 'slave' mode. I guess it's much more economical to use Godox as the third light. If there was one other observation/query from an educational point of view it would be could you explain why the scrim wins over umbrellas? Thanks again though. Your videos take us to the shoot in very helpful way.
@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto Жыл бұрын
@simonvail458 if you think that the last thing the light passes through has the most influence. So I’m pushing a soft light (from the umbrellas) through another big scrim. Essentially creating a massive very soft softbox above the model. Hope that makes sense??

Hi Rich I've just started filming KZbin yoga flows I've only got a small room I use a soft box light but I still think it seems a bit dark...any tips?? Feel free to see what the lighting looks like on my flows to see what i mean 🙈
@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto Жыл бұрын
Hi Meg, well done on filming your Yoga flows and for taking the step to invest in a light! It looks like the your light is to the left of the camera and as it spreads across the picture, the right hand side gets darker as the light falls away. If you can, try putting the light directly above the camera. This way it will light you nicely - after all you are the most important part of the video. We use two lights - one on each side of the camera - to get an even light. But this is also completely possible with just one light, you just need to know where to put it. What camera are you filming on? There's always a little bit of a balancing act between camera settings and lighting.
@holistic_meg_
@holistic_meg_ Жыл бұрын
@RichMaciverPhoto Hi Rich, I tend to have the soft light directly behind the camera but as its a small room I put it further back where the door is so I have more space which is why I guess it looks like its more to the left! Again as it's a small space if I put another soft light since they stick out a bit its hard to hide it out of shot! I'm wondering whether it's worth investing in the neewer type lighting? Not the soft box but the LED video light? It's tricky with the window behind me to get the lighting bang on but if I change the layout of the room I can't get the same angle
@holistic_meg_
@holistic_meg_ Жыл бұрын
@RichMaciverPhoto Also I've been filming using the GoPro Hero 11 it's got the best wide angle view and is easy enough to set up. I have the Sony ZV1 which I've stopped using recently I just dont know how to use it and whether it is actually the best camera for me as the angle is just not wide enough
@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto Жыл бұрын
Yeah the zv-1’s widest lens point is 24mm. So you would need a larger room really. I think you can set the Go-Pro’s settings manually - so it is possible but requires a little bit of learning. In this video you’ll see we put one light either side of the camera. Unless you have a really big space I would say that’s probably the best layout.
@holistic_meg_
@holistic_meg_ Жыл бұрын
@RichMaciverPhoto Hi Rich I've been trying to put the light or a ring light on the other side of the room but the light glares off the window...there's not really a lot of space behind the camera to put another light but something about my videos seems off it may be too much in the background or the lighting I'm not quite sure I'm trying to play around with it!

Love your vids Rich. Agree with visual style being your niche and thus being able to apply it to anything however it sometimes becomes difficult when marketing yourself because you're never really known for any particular thing?
@RichMaciverPhoto
@RichMaciverPhoto Жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, thanks so much! Yeah it’s not the easiest sell. I think your style needs to be really strong and highly developed to pull this off - but I’d imagine that’s something nearly all working photographers aim for (a unique, personal style). Some incredible photographers who do this well are Christopher Anderson, Pia Riverola and Seb Zanella just to name a few (check them out on IG!). They’re use of light, colour and composition are all really strong and they all have a diverse portfolio. For art director I’d imagine you’d be super confident you would know roughly how it’s going to turn out. Whether the commission is a portrait or a landscape. Ultimately your visual style becomes the thing you market. But, it’s extremely difficult.
