These fish were in 10-15 FOW right next to developing weed lines. I was trolling between 1.5 to 1.8 miles/hour. Slower when the water is cold, faster once it warms up a bit.

We used to throw em back in water for turtles and crawfish but nothing every touched the carcass after many weeks so i put em in back garden ... Is ok

@IndianaKayakFishingJournal24 күн бұрын
I hear that they are edible, but have never eaten one myself. the meat is supposedly more the consistency and flavor of chicken than fish. I want to try one, maybe this year is the year to try. I hear that you have to use tin snips to get through their scales, and then you get two long narrow pieces of meat that you can fillet off of the back of the fish.
@chk370023 күн бұрын
@IndianaKayakFishingJournal I never thought to eat one because they are extra slimy and produce an oil like substance the consistency of snot ... But I think this year I too will clean and eat one ... The females here grow to about 3-4 ft long and easy to spear in late summer

@ I haven’t seen all your vids, but have you done a video on the set up. Like placement of the swivel, split shot, bead and stopper. I have seen people do it without a swivel.
@IndianaKayakFishingJournal2 ай бұрын
I believe that I have explained the setup before in a video. I don't remember what video it is in, but I will be putting out a new Crappie video in the next couple of weeks where I can go through how I set it up. Would you like me to do that? I like the swivel because it allows me to change out leaders quickly. Three advantages to that: I can switch colors without tearing off the current soft plastic and adding a new one, I can quickly add a new leader if I break off, and because I have the weight on the leader if I am fishing deep water I can swap to a leader with more weight quickly to help pull the jig down to depth and through the bobber.
@noobpyrotech99912 ай бұрын
@@IndianaKayakFishingJournal That would be a good video. I use braid as my main line, and like having mono as a leader. The changes of the leaders seem like a good idea. Also I have had a few issues with rubber bobber stops getting caught in my guides and have snapped off.

I have not. I haven't been able to hit it at the right time the last few years. Roush is much smaller than Salamonie and Mississinewa. When they start the winter drawdown, that lake loses water fast and a lot of the good spots are out of water very quickly. I usually go where I think I will have the best success even if it means not getting the biggest Crappies. Thanks!
