I have learned that this was actually THE ISLAND QUEEN, which was owned by the Memphis Queen, but now the entire company is owned by someone else. The Island Queen held 300 people and was full on the night of this show.

I'm in love with Lee van Cleef and it was fun to see him at such a young age.

If Clayton Moore had never been cast, John Hart would have done just fine. Both Moore and Hart did a much better job than Klinton Spillsberry and Armand Hammer in their movies. Neither of those movies did justice to the Lone Ranger ethos.

Oddly when Clayton Moore demanded more money the producer refused. So Clayton walked. Also odd is the producer thought nobody would notice the replacement wasn't Clayton. Did he think Long Ranger fans were that stupid. When the producer decided to give Clayton what he wanted, I must confess I didn't notice for several months Clayton was back:) No just joking. I did notice.

Thanks so much for posting this, it must be one of Flynn's last appearances. It reminds us that Flynn spoke with the same cultivated Australian accent all his life. It was learned in speech classes and private schools (like Shore School), spoken by upper middle class Australians, and for years was the accent favoured by Australian radio announcers and actors (Robert Helpmann, Joan Sutherland etc). Coincidentally, this story is adapted from A Golden Shanty (1889) a very popular short story by Australian writer Edward "Ted" Dyson.

Lee van Cleef... was a terrific western actor... pretty sure he could have played in some bigger roles in better films/movies. He played his tuff/bad guy roles extremely well. Thx 4 uploading Australia
