Sounds like everyone should be using 1-3-1. You didn't have any examples of a mirror match. It's obviously a more flexible and defensible formation. Adapt or die.

I say get rid of offsides. Seems to me that if you can have guys skating behind their stupid zone then they can't easily force you to dump the puck into the zone and give up possession. I didn't grow up watching or playing hockey but got into it when the Hawks were good, so maybe there is some really amazing reasoning for offsides to exist. But whatever it is, I am not aware of it. Every explanation just sounds like BS to me.

This is not that hard to defeat. This is why you have a forward/defenseman coming from the rear on the opposite side of the ice, easy entry since four of five players are on one side of the ice. Problem solved.

Why don’t they pass back after forcing the middle guys to commit to one side. Have like a football style center defender that can pass in a V to the flanks and force the back defenders to constantly over commit.

In my opinion. If it's legal to play 1-3-1 none of us should whine about it. The game has to evolve with it. Same thing that happened in Football and Tiki Taka tactics in early 2010's. "Boring to watch"... The game is about winning not playing flair game. Brazil may have plenty of flair players but Germany still beat them 7-1 by playing like an engine (2014).

I am not a fan of the modern game. Is everyone more offensively skilled? Or have the rules made it far more comfortable for offense? The defenders can't do what they used to 20 years ago without being called for interference, slashing, holding, hooking, etc. I enjoy great defense and chippy play. That's why I'm cheering for the Panthers this year.

Only two series have been won by the lower seed and that's the oilers beating the cannucks and the avs beating the jets and thats a 3 beating a 2 and a 2 beating a 1... doesn't seem so unpredictable to me, stop looking at analytics.
@dannyjackson5356
@dannyjackson5356 9 күн бұрын
We are exactly where i thought we'd be. NYR, canes, canucks, and oilers all had an incredibly easy first round imo. You could have looked at those series objectively and on paper and easily picked the winners of those series. This is the first year in a while the top teams are in the final 4. Was sure the stars could beat vegas and assumed colrado would go to at least 7 colorado, which btw how tf did they finish so high in the standing and get arguably the two hardest teams, at the very least hardest in their own division, in the first two rounds? How does that work? How did every other top team get cake for the first round? I think comeback win percentages arent the greatest statistics to go by. Comebacks are awesome when you have that ability in your back pocket, but playing from behind consistently is a recipe for failure almost all of the time. Coming back is great if you can use the momentum to make a statement on the next game and ultimately the series. DOing it constantlyjust means you are playing desperate hocky and while that can create good things, the more calm and reserved oppenent can smell that fear a mile away. Look at vegas last year, and tampa during their two runs for good examples of that. Also you cant mention puck luck without mentioning skill. If you arent skilled to get into position there is no amount of puck luck in the world that create success.

Why is hockey so luck based? Because it’s played at high speed, on ice, with players balancing on 2 thin sheets of metal, with a rubber disc that bounces off of everything. It’s fucking crazy and I love it

And yet, we pretend like it's mostly skill and (following the NHL marketing) we mistakenly attribute victory to the skill and effort of individuals. It's the biggest problem in the sport: the public's misunderstanding of it.

It’s not that ref’s acting crooked on their own. You have to look at Vegas’ involvement in the league too. The betting lines. This is why come from behind wins are more and more prominent. If you think Vegas doesn’t have their hands in every sporting event, and every officiating crew, you’re wrong. They absolutely do. It’s become more and more obvious over the years. This is why that ref said he wanted to get a penalty on Nashville early. Not just because he doesn’t like them lol

My summer team ran this in highschool and it ruined the local skill level. The counter was something we also practiced and thats a nuetral zone curl. Once you approach the red line the 3 will begind to attack and thats when you go back to the near side defensemen who needs to immediately redirect the pass cross ice to the far winger. Winger should be ready for it to either skate it in himself or do a soft dump for another player to pick up speed. The clog assumes a hard dump in but soft dumps towards the hashmarks on the boards are much harder to pick up as the defense. Especially if 3 players get caught on the same part of the ice

there is a way to break this formation and it is something that is use in Basketball. I believe it could work great here since they collapse onto the puck carrier and then what is open 4 other players 1 behind and two on the other side. what would happen there if you have 3 defense players trying to stop the puck carrier which passes it back quickly then they pass it quickly to the other side then the defense is now has two maybe three players against 4. Great odd and the 3 players is probably out of position on defense anyway. So, you just created a great opportunity to score quickly. Just need to practice this way to fight against this tactic. just look at soccer as well and you can beat this. just has to work on it. Practice and it will work just have to be quick.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with using strategy to beat your opponents. If it works, then it's not stupid. There are teams that can't break a 1-3-1 and there are teams that can. You should always 'know your enemy' and exploit their weaknesses to win. I can't fault a team for doing that.
