Hey, just saw this and idk if you ever did restore the Boda machine or not. I knew Boda pretty well and I bought a shader off him in 03 and a liner the following year. They were made custom for me so I’m not sure how the ones that were available through kingpin were. Mine are absolute beasts! I used the shader literally all day every day from 03 till 2011. I never had to do anything to it, no tuning nothing. The liner I didn’t run quite as hard but it’s a monster too. I went to prison in 14 and all of my stuff went missing. It sucks but the tattoo Gods smiled on me because a dear friend had both of my Boda machines and they’re a little rusty but are still beasts. Anyone that wants serious machine. If you can find one I’d grab it! I intend to see if I can hunt a couple more down. I wouldn’t sell the ones I have for any price. I’ve used a lot of great machines by great builders but NONE of them have come close to those machines. He truly was a wizard! I had a friend offer to put new coils and springs but I can’t bring myself to do it. If they crap out, I’ll probably just retire them… not sure. I was happy to see Boda talked about so kindly, he was a great guy. R.I.P Boda

You can make the coils shorter with sand paper , use a water sand paper with a 360 grit, cut a strip and pinch it under thw armature bar and the coil core and pull to the front, advice u should use a permanent marker tonpaint the coil top and know where you are sanding , or stilt the armature bar with filler gauge

In about 1974 I would drive to milt's house ( then inherited) by his daughter. The supply business was in the basement. I would buy equipment from his two grandsons. I would come down with them, there were 55 gallon drums of Dupont powdered pigment, coil winders, stacks and stacks of flash. That pork chop sheet was my first sheet I owned. Here is some rare info, Milts daughter hand painted them with water color that came in a little book with pages like colored tissue paper. She put a piece in water and made the paint. At least the one I had was done by her in that method. When I found out about National supply I traded a small fortune (today's value) of equipment and supply's I considered junk at the time for a bicycle LOL.

Great video, one thing I would disagree with is claiming cains are "expensive" There aren't many builders who have been building as long and consistently as Cain. His machines definitely exhibit that. Also, in 2023 there are multiple machines that sell for well over $1k that are mass produced. Cains perform are above and beyond most machines, and they're (like you said) a one of a kind masterpiece. I understand what you're saying though. When most builders charge about $500 for a machine, and $850 machine sounds like a lot more money...but it's a lot more machine.
