Do you put your clippings in a vase to enjoy the remaining blooms. Thank you for your info. I will head out today and cut mine down. It is still beautiful in this cooler weather. From Okanagan, BC

Thank you Sandra.....I really love this video. It really helped me understand on how to overwinter my Mandevillas and Dipladenas .

Love this video thanks so much for taking the time to share. I live in upstate ny above the finger lakes. I’ve been overwintering both mandevilla and Dipladenia in my north facing sunroom. It has two skylights and lots of windows. The temps never drop below 45 ish… after watching this I’m going to prune them as you suggested. I was just not sure if They need to be in a darker room? I also have grow lights in the room and wonder if exposure to the lights will confuse their natural dormancy? Do you think covering them with lightweight black sun cover plant blankets would be a good idea? One more question.. my sunroom has a stone floor.. is it best to elevate them above the stone? Thanks again.. superb video:))

This is my first year, growing banana trees and it’s sprouted 2 others and it has became one of my favorite plants and I’m looking at getting different varieties, but I cannot stand a fruit tree that does not grow fruit and I hate that this one doesn’t because it looks absolutely beautiful to be a big waste of space 😢might as well be a toro “elephant ear” I live at the Crystal Coast in the southern Outer Banks of North Carolina and I created a tropical rainforest bed this year to support the ecosystem that a tropical banana tree would need. And most people around here just have ornamental trees because they’re too lazy to do the work that it would take to keep a tree alive during the winter so it would actually barefruit unlike myself I want fruit trees to have fruit so I guess I’ll have to find a different variety sadly 😢 Blue Java & Sumatrana X it is I reckon 🫶🏽 ordered them today

Thank you so much! My husband encouraged me to buy 2 of these in June. I wanted some color in front of the house. He passed in August and his profession was in landscape management. 😢 I was just noticing how beautiful they still look and wondering if they could be wintered over as one of those last best memories that will continue on. I’m happy to know it’s possible and am now in tears. Once again, thanks so much!

Sorry to hear about your husband’s passing😢 I’m so glad you have the Mandevilla’s for a precious memory with him. Praying they overwinter well for you and grow even more beautiful in future seasons ❤️ My husband also has a degree in landscaping and I’ve often thought what in the world will I do with our 230 different hostas he has collected, when he passes. Our whole half acre of property is beautifully landscaped, but how in the world will I take care of that someday when I am a little old granny. We are in our 50s now, so I guess I will take one day at a time and cherish my husband and the plants while I can. God bless you and I’m wishing you a bright future for the next season of your life.❤️

Very informative! I'm in Oakville, Ontario (Cdn Zone 6b I think) and I've been overwintering my mandevilla for 4 years now. This will be year 5. It is a monster, about 6' tall. I give it a good soaking in an insecticidal soap bath and spray before bringing it in. It sits in my kitchen in front of the south facing patio doors and brings some colour in the kitchen. I don't have the heart to chop it until January after it's pretty much finished blooming. I might also chop again in March because it grows quickly and the vines want to reach up to the lights. I do have to keep an eye out for spider mites - thought for sure I might lose it last year but it hung in there after a second major pruning. I also bring in my hisbiscus - that's been hit and miss, and more easily susceptible to pests.

I bought the Rio brand dipladenia from Home Depot 4 years in a row and both years they send up climbers that wrap around the pot hangers. So dipladenia do indeed climb like mandevilla. The only time thy don't climb is when, obviously, there is nothing for them to twist around and climb so the climbers simple flop around.

Thank you, excellent & informative video! FYI; use gloves, it is essential to exercise caution when handling Dipladenia plants, as the toxic sap can cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. Additionally, it is recommended to keep Dipladenia out of reach of children and pets to avoid accidental ingestion.

Cheers from Winnipeg, Canada! Thank you for sharing your video. Very informative! I had wintered a red Mandevila last year and will definitely bring it inside again after pruning back. I had bought a pot with pink, white and red this year. I love Mandevilas, and they seemed to thrive on my 23rd floor balcony with the sun and wind.

I’m in Winnipeg too, and also have a large pot with pink, red, and white mandevila. It’s going to freeze tonight (October 3) and it’s time to bring it into my breezeway. Planning to enjoy it until that area gets too cold; she said 6 degrees, right? Then it will get a good haircut and be moved into my heated garage along with my geraniums and canna lilies. What a great video. All the salient information and none of the time filler! ❤❤❤

Hi Betty! It's so wonderful to hear from another Winnipeger. I brought both my Mandevilas this past weekend before the overnight temperature dipped below 10 degrees Celsius. Right now they are in my living room of my apartment. I will need to remove my Canna lily bulbs and Dahlias and store them in my storage room. I am not looking forward to winter.

Wonderful very helpful video. Just to check - in the basement over the winter months does the mandevilla need any light at all, or can it be dark? (If necessary, I can keep the clipped plant by a window in the basement.)

As a mandevilla grows should you intertwine the new vines down toward the woody beginnings? Ours in on our covered porch and looks like sticks at the soil level up about 8 inches and very green lush at the top toward the ceiling!
