Have to say that video creates a story that doesn't exist in the real world. I've been going to gyms since I was 22. I'm a few months from 74. Clearly, there are more younger gym members than of I see people in their 90's going to clubs. I currently am going to my seventh different club in my years training. When I was much younger, I always admired the out of shape or older people there trying to get in shape. I never once heard any of my friends disparaging anyone in the gym based on age or whatever condition they were in. Today at 73, I've never had anyone respond to me any differently than when I was 23. I think videos like this might scare a lot of older or out of shape people from ever going. The reality is that the negative judgemental environment depicted in this video would be a very rare occurrence. Most gym goers, regardless of age are focused on their own goals and aspirations and aren't focused on disparaging others.

At age 65 a young 28 year old kid who I’m pretty friendly with offered me a challenge. He is a beast. He has won a couple local bodybuilding events. He works as a framer building houses. Strong in gym and hardworking job. His challenge was “at the end of our workouts today let’s tape up biceps and see who’s got the bigger guns”. Haha. I said “you’re on!” An hour later he and I had stayed away from each other but we kept eyeballing each other to see what pump exercises we were each using. Then he said “ok I gotta get going. You ready to tape?” Yup. Several young guys came around us to witness this. Remember I’m 65 and he’s 28. The rule was “you can approve where the tape is but you can’t angle it”. Ok. He taped up first. 17-1/4” on left. 17-1/8” on right. My turn. 17-1/8” on left. 17-1/4” on right! Haha. Dead tie! He was a little taken aback. He felt sure he had me. I honestly thought he’d get me too. But I looked at him and said “I declare you the winner because you are measuring in with a whole lot less body fat % than me meaning some of mine is just skin and fat layer over my muscle but your muscles are actually bigger if I strip back that fattier skin layer”. He grabbed me in a bear hug and said “I hope I can be like you when I’m in my 60’s.” That little circle of gym rats applauded us both and everyone was trying to tape up to see if they could beat us. Nope. There’s really only a few guys in our gym that have bigger guns. But those guys are like 240-280 and look like NFL linebackers. So I’m pretty happy about my guns. Been working them all my life. I thank my Dad for his genetic contribution. He was a skinny guy but he had big guns too.
