Patty you're awesome. Thank you for being so sensible and setting a positive example. Your conclusion on listening first, and then deciding if you want to agree or not is so important in life. Hi. I personally don't like to use any pumps for my tanks unless I really need to, it's because I hate the noise in my room. I remember from Diana Walstad book that airstones quickly remove CO2 from water, which is not good for the plants, and more oxygen for fish is needed only if they are gasping for air, especially in the morning after lights turn on. If the fish are gasping, it's probably something else not right in the tank, like not enough stem plants or too many fish in one tank. If they gasp a little bit, it seems logical to try to fine-tune it by increasing the intensity or duration of light. Anyway, I just don't like my aquariums to depend on lots of electrically powered mechanisms, especially if they are noisy😅. Anyway, I'll dedicate time to listen to your and Cory's conversation. Hope you'll get well soon

exactly the same here. no noise. nothing at all. I get regular power outages and my fish are safe everyday and happy as they are. I won’t be changing anything. @@igorgilza I agree with the noise it was one of the main reasons I cut out the air about 8 months ago. I may invest into a linear air pump I can mount in another room and pipe it into the fish room to cut it down. I also may put the pumps on timers. I used to do that and run them only at night when the oxygen levels would be at there lowest. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

@@thesolaraquarium yeah the noise was my biggest reason I removed air initially, I have run my tanks for 8 months without it so do I think my tanks are fine? But side note at least I know if the power goes out my fish will be fine for however long the powers out😁

@@pattys_aquatics yes, for the record I am not against filters, heaters etc…. I keep very low stocking levels (sometimes extremely low) which is how I get away with it, fish in tanks with sometimes no plants. Low stocking levels is my thing, but I appreciate that most people do not and want to see fish. I think at very low stocking levels you can get away with alot. So each to his own. youtube.com/@josepolanco1228?si=9BZc1TawHliNyX8E Hi Adam above is a link of the post Mexicali live stream on which i was part of, i did a response post There is always the option to do it your way. Not opposed to dirted tanks , at times i have considered it for its benefits, but definitely will include some form of filtration. I really enjoyed the live with cory , saw it live and again on replay. My issues is the extremes in anything and i am happy that out of reasonable conversation come out , oh shit moments. Where we may say , maybe there is a point the others idea , if we listen and the don’t think that is our way or the highway. The issue of oxygenation is not so much about the air it does provide surface agitation, which is the key to gas exchange. The wave maker is a magnificent way to provide that and water circulation which is healthy for any water tank or system. We know that regardless of what one thinks fish , including discus , are highly adaptable and can slowly adapt to many conditions slowly, when one may say how in the “ swamp water” ?not my term. Meaning even us adapt to environmental differences. For example you and I are likely not to do well initially in the altitudes of the Himalayas, but will adapt and adjust over time to the lower available oxygen levels, people of the region have. With that being said evolution has occurred in some species in our life times . fish will adapt to conditions in a dirted tanks even if some of us don’t feel is optimal . That can possibly provide part of the answer for some that ask “ well many have kept fish is dirted tanks for years! , how come, they don’t die?” Well as i said they are highly adaptable. I can site many examples , but we don’t have all day. Fish do it every day in nature, some to have developed adaptations ( blind cave fish). Changes in season, drought and so on. In conclusion to my lengthy response ,is that there is no one way. We can have respectful conversations while listening to other point of views. You (Adam)are doing things that do not go with the do nothing extreme ideas. You do what works for your tanks. All are unique and treated differently. Again great stream and happy that you are open to a different point of view. At this point in time electric cars are not for me , maybe in the future. As dirted tanks are not for all , not for me at this time. Not closed to the idea, the extreme yes. Thank you my friend Respectfully, Jose @Joy of fish keeping 🙏
