Terrible Experience with Abodu - Do Not Trust Their Promises I regret ever signing a contract with Abodu. From the very beginning, I was promised that my ADU would be completed within 6-8 months and that the cost would not exceed the initial estimate. They assured me that their site visit was thorough and designed to prevent any surprises during construction. However, after two long years, my home was finally installed--but in the wrong location! Abodu has completely bait-and-switched me. Their sales practices and advertising are misleading and do not align with the reality after you sign the contract. They make grand promises, but once you're locked in, it's a different story. This is a very unethical company that takes advantage of people. I would strongly advise anyone considering them to look elsewhere. Don't fall for their empty promises like I did.

The owner's final cost was $76k, however he had experience in the construction industry and did a good portion of the work himself. If you're in California, you can expect a project like this to cost $175k-225k.

I wanted to do an 800 sq ft ADU but the impact fees were simply too expensive, so instead I did a 745 sq ft ADU.

She did an amazing job at explaing this. I'm sending this to a client. They went off a google search and when I presented them with a breakdown of the cost and a project schedule they couldn't understand the cost. I have long background in construction so its hard for me to put myself in their shoes and this video really helped.

Ha! Granny flat is just a term used to describe the structure, otherwise referred to as an ADU, accessory dwelling unit. You're right though - stairs are not the best decision if building an ADU for aging parents.

The floor plan was designed by the architecture group, not the builder. Designer is Victor Gutierrez of Metro D&C Group.

You'll need a primary home (or at least a proposed primary home) in order to be able to build an ADU on your property.

Nope! All of the ADU regulations we discuss video apply to California, however other states are adopting many similar regulations. Either way, this video talks about the right process for building an ADU - this process is consistent in most places!
