I appreciate the structure you used to lay out your point and warn people who might not be interested. Re: your last point and the online artificial outrage machine's accusations of heresy -- er, I mean wokeness, a small channel called Cosoman did a minor dive into the history and geopolitical dynamics of the Mali empire, the Ottomans, and whether the background setting of medieval trade and diplomacy might have PLAUSIBLY supported a character like Musa. I don't know Malian history specifically, but Cosoman provides the context and I have read extensively other history about trade and transmission of ideas across Eurasia and North Africa. Cosoman's legitimately academic background led him to believe that yes, this is sufficiently plausible for a work of historical FICTION that already posits an illegitimate son for Radzig Kobyla. As a layman history enthusiast, the case sounds good enough for fiction to me. After all, Marco Polo successfully made a round trip to China, over a hundred years prior to Henry's and Musa's time. Musa's trip to Hungary would be far shorter and rely on caravan-hopping through several interconnected and centuries-old to millennia-old trade routes around the Mediterranean, Asia Minor, and Eastern to Central Europe. It's not like Warhorse were positing an Australian or Micronesian aboriginal tribesman making the trek to Hungary. Personally I just think the "go woke go broke" choads are guilty of the same thing many modern audiences and Hollywood writers are guilty of -- assuming with no basis that surely no ancient people could have possibly been as clever or resourceful as a modern Victorian -- er, I mean American. <eyeroll> Anyone insisting that this is 21st century wokeness being projected on history bears the burden of proving there was no trade possible or permitted along the chain from Mali to Hungary. B/c there's plenty of evidence outright proving the existence of regular trade and diplomatic relations at every major link of the chain. The only bit of fiction and creative license is in using this existing chain to imagine an individual riding the entire length of the chain. 8:45 The KCD 2 combat clips show enemies eventually flanking and attacking you if you focus on a single opponent for more than 1-2 strikes. That feels about right to me. The whole flow of combat mechanics could easily speed up by a factor of 2 plus greater complexity, buuut based on KCD 1 I was never going to expect that KCD 2 would become a frenetic swordfighting hardcore simulator. Anyone who wants that can turn to more specialized games like Hellish Quart and the Half Sword playtest (both of which I recommend highly for their distinct approaches to the topic). That's not KCD's greatest strength, anyway. It's the immersion in as close to a living medieval world as time, budget, and resources permitted Warhorse to recreate. And for that, I stopped using fast travel early in in my 350+ hours of KCD 1. I expect I'll entirely skip fast travel from the outset in KCD 2. Speaking from a context of nonlethal IRL combat sport HEMA training/horsing around with 1v3+, most people are not great at communicating and coordinating their attacks. Everyone's afraid to be the first one in, and then once they're in engagement range they're afraid of fratricide (either them getting hit by a teammate or them hitting a teammate). And if they do communicate with each other, the 1 opponent hears them, obviously. "OK guys, jump him on 3! Ready, 1, 2, 3!" :D Anything more coded or prearranged to hide intent would have to be, well, prearranged and trained b/c two n00bs with swords are going to be so deep in their target fixation under stress that they won't even hear their mother calling them by their full names. Still, the monkey in the middle definitely needs to constantly use K-pop band level footwork to stay out of the middle, flank, and momentarily isolate an opponent, using his body to physically block the others. There's a LOT of 2-5 meter sprinting. :P That was true in KCD 1, and it still looks necessary in the KCD 2 footage even if combat overall has become easier (for those of us who played waaay too much KCD). I can't imagine most irregular / militia level bandits or town guards at the time would have that kind of well-coordinated group training, at least not from the instances of Renaissance documentation I've seen (like ordinances that cover the establishment of a town watch). Only soldiers -- and good ones with an experienced commander -- and very experienced/successful bandits or whatever would likely be squared away on group tactics.

I pre-ordered the game back on the 20th of January. And I'm beyond excited to play it, and have already put many hours into the first game and have even beaten it. But how exactly does Musa make any sense?? Remember Nicopolis?? I don't think Sigismund would've ever wanted to visit the court of Sultan Bayezid, due to the religious tensions of both rulers before the eventual Crusade of Nicopolis. And though I do believe a European would've been intrigued by an African, and perhaps might've let one join his own entourage, Musa is Muslim I'm assuming?? And I really don't think Christians in the conservative setting of 15th century Bohemia would've really cared to invite one over. Sigismund was rather zealous, so personally, I think Musa is a problem. Though it isn't a major one. I just don't see how his story makes sense. The character seems to lack effort, and I'm convinced Plaion was behind that one. But to whoever disagrees with me, enlighten me as to why Musa makes sense. Seriously, because I love history. And his character and story really don't seem to make much sense, at all, whatsoever. Thank you.
@Wariyaka18 сағат бұрын
Travelling merchants and scholars from that region was not unheard of during medieval times. They where certainly not common and really few and far between but a singular one in a rich town like this in this region the early 1400s is perfectly plausible. I get the feeling many westerners just don't know how wealthy and sophisticated some African kingdoms where at this time and to the extent they really did trade and travelled. The criticisms here are mostly emotional, bigoted and based on genuine ignorance.
@jimenagarcia3201918 сағат бұрын
@Wariyaka I understand that, but Mali wasn't a big deal by 1403. And the last time it was really booming was during the reign of Mansa Musa, who died in 1337. And seriously, Nicopolis makes Musa's story all the less plausible. On top of him most likely being a Muslim. So I'm not complaining over this with "emotional, bigoted, and based on genuine ignorance." Lmao. Look into Malian and Ottoman history before you critique someone. I was asking for genuine responses, not disrespectful insults. Though I won't stoop down to your level, I'm keeping this professional and respectful. Like, I love history, but the fact that he is a Muslim in 15th century Europe, and the fact that his birthplace was terrible by this time period, and the fact that the Crusade of Nicopolis even happened shows that his character was built upon zero effort and understanding of history. Especially with the tensions of Christian Europe and the Islamic Sultanate.

8:30 i cant remember the details but i remember watching a documentary of a battle where 1 army had more men like 1.5 more but the majority were archers while the other had less but majority were knights. So what the king did was put the archers at front to rain down hell and when they got in close, he just have the archers rush down the knights and gank them in 1 v 3 combat (they tackle the knights down and stab them through their gaps in armor with daggers)

If the church in the game accepts Henry or capon being homosexual then I’ll be mad. God has always considered homosexuality to be against the eternal law and order. The Catholic Church to this day still affirms this. I don’t care about anything else to be honest. I just want my church and culture to not be disrespected that’s all.
@coruviel23 сағат бұрын
The mere mention of homosexuality in anything on a video game apparently shatters the persona of most men here lmao, are we really that insecure about our masculinity that the mere inclusion of something that doesn't concern you affect you buying a game? Do not go looking for it and it will not bother you, i assume most of us complaining have wives yes? Girlfriends? Then go have sex, reassure yourselves you really are straight because it doesn't look like you are too sure, I've been in a relationship for more than 8 years now with lovely gf, i am in no way bothered by "woke" shit, I DON'T LIKE IT, I DONT AGREE WITH IT, BUT I SURE AS HELL CAN IGNORE IT Go take a shower, go outside, get laid, talk to females besides your mother.
@damianwards726923 сағат бұрын
I appreciate your inclusion of the "Woke/DEI" section. That is my only question mark on this game. It sounds like none of it is forced in any way, which is good to hear. The gay thing never really bothered me, as long as I can say "no", but this Musa character really scared me. It sounds like you won't be forced into "re-education" or anything like that as it pertains to this character, and that makes me glad. Both of those elements realistically don't even belong in this game, but with modern gaming in the state it is in, having that small of an inclusion feels like a blessing. I adored the first game, and I feel I will be adoring the second. Thanks for the review 👍

Hans and Henry having a romantic subplot makes a lot of sense though. They've been through a lot together and homosexuality among knights was a thing in the Middle Ages. Sometimes, friendships can grow into something much deeper over time and in Henry and Hans' case, it seems like a natural development of their relationship.

Those who studied history know that there have been times when points of history there have been gay people. We have to look at the ancient romans, greeks, and even in medieval times. Although back in medieval times. The same sex relationships were definitely a forbidden sin and could potentially be deemed as the work of the devil by Catholic standards. Personally, i dont see anything wrong with it. But i would not be going down that root with my henry. My henry is a straight noble knight. God be praised 🙌
@Light-vl3vdКүн бұрын
The other thing i would like to add. Significantly involving the mali lad and how he came to Europe. As people who do geography. Mali is in Africa, and at the time of 1403. Mali at the time was muslim, rich in gold continent that sought trade with European continents. So obviously, they would use the silk road to trade goods, educate themselves, and / or become merchants for other nations at their disposal. This falls in line with historical accuracy with the times. Kuttenburg was a big city hub, and it wouldn't surprise me to see minor multiculturalism inside or around the area.
@nikosi3643Күн бұрын
@Light-vl3vd No one denies the existence of gays in the Middle Ages, especially in ancient times, there were also gays in the first game and no one said anything. People are outraged that they made retcon so that Henry and Hans are now bisexuals with the possibility of romance with each other, two established straight characters forced for the sake of woke. Of course, it is possible that Musa could be present in Bohemia, but this is so unlikely and far-fetched, it would be more logical to make him a Turk or at least an Arab, but the influence of the Embracer Group forced them to make him to Africans for the sake of DEI.
@Light-vl3vdКүн бұрын
@nikosi3643 yeah fair enough that's your opinion but as for my im not gonna let it invade or spoil my time playing it. Afterall in my playthrough I'm gonna play as a straight henry. Henry and Hans being canonically straight *up until this point in their lives* doesn't change the fact that as *you* are in *complete* control of Henry's actions that an option shouldn't be there to attempt. Nor that there might not be massive consequences if it was an option you made Henry pursue. That is life. You have that option *now* in real life in any friendships you might have. Does that suddenly make you want to opt out of real life? Just don't *do* those things you feel are wrong. Same as theft, or deliberate murder; those are choices your Henry *has.* Ones he can dive into, or avoid like the plague. *You* as Henry have those choices. Not having the option existing would feel fake. Artificial. Just like forcing them would be. Just because romance options exist in the game doesn't make any of them forced. *My* first playthrough is my canonically "right after" my most recent KCD1 story, and as such will have fully romanced Theresa, and be loyal to her. Even shot down Lady Stephanie. Another realistic choice. But another play? Maybe he is Honest™ and never steals, choosing not to cultivate thiefly skills at all. A true "knightly" type of playthrough. I expect a lot of marigold potions to be used... Warhorse is giving us the options to play Henry realistically, by our choices, and give us those consequences. That gives is *many* kinds of choices... not all of which you or I will ever experience. That is a *great* thing, not a drawback or flaw.

Henry is not a player avatar and straight people don't pursue relationships with men
@nikosi3643Күн бұрын
1. Henry is an established character with his own personality, not a blank protagonist who can be created from scratch, he's a heterosexual Christian, everything is shown in his dialogues and cutscenes where he acts on his own, you do not feel dissonance in him under different circumstances, he is NOT YOU 2. The choices in the first game are deeply rooted in Henry's character, even in radically different ways it fits into his nature, and it's largely implied that he's a knight who uses a bow and stealth as something secondary. 3. In the first game, there is a DLC in which there is a quest with a gay monk, he literally says that "he can't help himself, he DIDN't CHOOSE who to be," this is a very good message, no one in life can suddenly choose his sexuality, you can't force a person, but now it turns out to be YOUR CHOICE, not Henry's, they say that HENRY is YOU now.
@navajanoir68Күн бұрын
Nah, most guys don't consider or want flings or romantic shit with their friends or bros. It's not an option or consideration. While there are gays and bi dudes, not saying there aren't, even back in medieval times, acting like it was prevalent or common behavior in Europe with most men like they weren't straight or completely straight, is just not true. Henry being straight and not considering or even thinking about a gay relationship with a guy as a typical dude during those times is not artificial, especially since he was established as such in the first game, and his friendship with Hans was not established as that. Adding that option for Henry and Hans in the story like it's something they would possibly do changes the dynamic of their friendship in way that's just not actual behavior or a thought process with most guys and their bros. Most guys would find it highly unpleasant if they find out their best bro was attracted to them sexually or romantically in any way. Henry isn't just a blank slate character where you can make whatever decisions to define the kind of character you are.
@stlawstlaw758522 сағат бұрын
Massive cope, nothing but cringe empty fallacies... I guess there is nothing wrong with Henry marrying some 12yo girl, far more common and accepted in medieval Europe than LGBT? Hey it's not enforced if it's only exists, your 'logic'. Or maybe Henry can be an anti-Semite, I'm not supporting that, I'm saying it was historically accurate and you say you can do whatever you want... except you can't. You can only do what the developers allow you to do in their predefined and limited game world (I doubt you can kill Sigismund for example). They did not implemented barbers, nor hardcore difficulty, but they finished this "option"? Priorities I guess - you can change Henry's sexuality but you can't change his haircut. ALL "options" in the first game were women, was that wrong for some reason? "Not having the option existing would feel fake. Artificial." so the first game was fake because Henry could not romance men??? Seriously, that's just ridicuIous. How about sheep, they exist, maybe you would like to see that "option" for full immersion lol or you only defend THIS option? btw Bianca wasn't even an option, she is canon, also that Uzhitz girl (*Godwin scene)- the game never even warned the player about the next scene. Comparing 'romance' scenes, literally cinematic cutscenes and some random theft is another logical nonsense. "my Henry did this and did that" Did your Henry romance Hans? No? Why now? Why this "option" was not important back then, but it is so important now? Why this "option" must exists in EVERY game today? Yet they tried to hide it, just watch their trailers - Henry dancing with bunch of girls (rather intimately). Are they ashamed of this "option"?
