What an incredible experience… to sit with holocaust survivors. Many years ago, when I was in college, I took a class called “sociology of extreme situations”. As a youngin, I signed up thinking it would be about facing things like getting robbed at an atm or domestic violence, however it was a deep dive into the holocaust. The even bigger draw was that the class was taught by a man who’s parents and grandparents were holocaust survivors. We read the book Night, by Elie Wiesel and it completely affected me in so many ways. I’ve suggested that book to so many people and have since read it a few more times ♥️

There are also mizrahi Jews in the entire Middle East. My family came from Iran, and there was also a Holocaust in all of north Africa and Iraq (called Frahud)

Why Didn't the jews fight back from the beginning? Why did they allow such discrimination?... just asking not to offend.

It was little by little. By the time the restrictions and ultimately the deportation these people had nothing, their country was against them and they we're lied too. Our country is starting down this path...just haven't the scapegoat yet to blame all our issues on look at Hitler and his rise....now look at Trump. Its so easy when you're hunry and scared to follow a light that promises the riches of the past.

Several years ago my husband gave an old man who worked with him at a factory a ride home. I saw a small tattoo on his arm and I asked him about it. Tears welled up in his eyes and said that he had been in a prison camp in Germany. He was the only survivor from his family. He wasn't killed because he could still walk and work even though he was starving. He told me to never forget those who died and not let it happen again. I thought about him on October 7th. God have mercy on us all.

We need to share these stories we have been honored to hear, especially in today’s climate where people are still trying to deny their existence or lived experience. I witnessed the first time a grandfather ever told anyone his story. It was at his grandson’s Bar Mitzvah, at the reception after. He spoke of his time as a child, growing up in fear, then in the camps, and the day the soldiers came to liberate the camp where he was imprisoned. He chose to share his story there, at the reception, because everyone in his family save himself died in the camps. He never believed he would live to have children, let alone grandchildren. He sang a song of love, mourning and hope to dead his parents and siblings showing them the pride of their family lives on.

Schools are not teaching the actual horror stories of WWII. This is such a mistake. Young people saying Palestine is the real holocaust are so mislead. Don't think this can't happen here or in the world again. You are sadly mistaken.

It’s hard to believe this happened, that the Germans of that time allowed it to happen. However, something like this could happen anywhere, even in America today.

You are just amazing. Give them ALL love from me. I was born 1977 in a small town in Sweden. When I was about 7 or 8 me and my brother spent time in private daycare where the grandmother lived upstairs.sh was very sick and, at least to my young eyes, old. One day I noticed that she had t tatoo on her wrist. It was an A and some numbers. I asked about it and was confronted with the horrors of Auschwitz. So I have always felt I have an obligation to learn about WW2 and educate those who still have crazy wrong opinions. Lots of love

I remember learning about the Holocaust this same way when I was younger. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and there was an older lady that lived in our building. One day, she wasn't feeling too well and asked if one of "us kids" could run to the store for her. (This was common for adults to do back in the 80's). I remember when she gave me the money and list I saw the letter and numbers tattooed on her inner wrist. Of course being a nosey child, I asked about it and she educated me. That's why it gets me so upset when I hear/ read things from people who deny the Holocaust.

@@monie2193 I know exactly what you mean. Babcha, probably spelled that wrong it means grandmother in Polish, was very gentle when she told me that first time. I went home and talked to my parents about it, and that is when the real horror set in. I know I har trubble sleeping for a couple of nights after that. Thinking about how people could be so evil. I went to Berlin when I was 14, to see Sachsenhausen. I dont Think I would have been able to process Auschwitz properly at that time but now I am ready. And för those who deny the holocoust, that is just disgusting. You CAN NOT be that stupid to not believe in something so well documented. We Will keep on educating as long as we have our voices left
