I lot of holiday makers don't realize that when you get up to this elevation on the Funchal hillsides, the weather is very different from Centro or Lido. This is a disappointment to many.

Hello Sally! That’s a great point. The elevation really does make a difference. I guess if the price is good and you’re planning to be gone all day sightseeing and have a car it can work. This place was great because it had walls all around and kept the wind out. But as you say, it can be disappointing in terms of weather. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. Cheers! M&D

@@Track_Us_Down yeah, I visited some visited friends who rented a lovely home up there (I think this is Boa Nova) with a pool, and it was misty and cloudy the whole time they were there. It was sunny and warm in the Lido. They were a bit bewildered because they did a lot of careful planning and paid top price for the rental. But the micro climates here are so dramatic it's understandable that very few people would understand the potential issues.

Hello! That’s exciting that you’re retiring in December! The time will fly by! Please do research the tax situation before making a decision. If you are helping your kids in their 20s, you will continue helping them in their 30s, 40s and when you are gone, they suddenly realize that they just cannot pick the phone to call you for more. Don't be cheap to yourself.
@Track_Us_Down
@Track_Us_Down 3 күн бұрын
Hello Boris, We all need help starting out in our 20s, especially these days. If an adult child is working, doing everything they can, being a responsible contributing member of society - then helping them is the right things to do. It’s a misconception that helping ( financially or otherwise) leads to dependency. It leads to a feeling of safety and security that enables an adult child to feel connected and supported and hopefully one day generous with others. They are going to inherit all the money in the end. You either give it with a warm hand or a cold heart . It’s different if they are relying on money from a parent and acting in an irresponsible way. That’s a much trickier situation. Thanks for watching. Cheers! M&D

@@Track_Us_Down You are a child in your teens. In your 20s, you are either an adult or still a child. Not both. True, your child will be always a child to you whether she or he in her/is 20s or 40s. In your 20s you were better than you are now. You may lack sophistication dealing with people, your testosterone is running way high, etc, …but other than that you’re way better. When your children in their 20s they need to try as many things as they can to find what they are really good at to make a living. Otherwise you will have, one day, your over 40 year old kid moving backing with you because he cannot make it on his own. Yes, the kids will inherit at the end. Unfortunately. But you don’t want your kids fighting over it as soon as you are gone …because they are unable to make it on their own and already are dependent on what they stand to inherit.

I found this video very interesting. We're in our 70s, so - for us- it's not our "second half of life; it's the last third of life. As my wife says, we worked hard our entire lives, and now it's time to indulge it. We always fly business and spend money on trips abroad without feeling guilty. At the same time, we have enough money invested and saved to leave some to our children and grandchildren. Fortunately, we have reached this point without significant concerns regarding our financial situation. Children seem to be happy and have promising professional careers and well-paying jobs. However, we also know that bad things can happen at any moment, and we must be prepared for Murphy's law ("Anything that can go wrong will go wrong."). Hence, we have refreshed our legal papers (Last Will and Testament, Durable Power of Attorney, Health Care Surrogate, Living Will, Pre-Need Guardian, etc.) because we don't want to leave work to our children when the times come. We are enjoying our lives in a calm, peaceful, and tranquil way right now without feeling guilty or having major regrets about how we conducted ourselves. On the latter, though, looking back, I keep thinking that if I could "rewind the tape," I would have done many things differently ... I would have paid more attention to my kids and less to my career. I would have chosen a job that would bring me more satisfaction - even if I had to make less money. But I understand that I had to make money to give opportunities to my children that otherwise I would not. We have children for life, from the day they are born to the day we are gone. My first thoughts when I wake up and go to bed are always about them. All I want - and pray- is for them to be happy and have healthy and meaningful lives.

From Lisbon to Madeira - he got on and off no check in with the vet. Maybe we had to show the paperwork from Lisbon ?- I can’t remember. We would also highly recommend HVM animal hospital in Funchal Madeira as a vet. Leo has all his check ups there, surgeries and they are amazing and very helpful and they speak English well.
