How long did it take to build this?

@ChristopherPagan-r9g I'm still building it. I probably have about 1500 hours in so far. A lot of that time, though has been wheelbarrowing material down to the site and harvesting/milling my own lumber.

Definitely not as invested in the characters as we should be, and were in LOTR. The books are all great, the lord of the rings movies were ok too, but the hobbit movies I thought they weren’t sure what to do in places so replicated bits from LOTR. Nice work on the hobbit hole, look forward to more progress

I have a genuine question, as I’m learning wood working. I thought lumber had to be dried before it could be used in construction because it shrinks?

@ShawnSpitler It does for furniture making. Not as much for home construction. I dried the tree I cut for about 6 months before I used it. Given the thickness of the slab, that's not nearly long enough if it was for a finished interior project. But since this is going to be out in the rain and sun, expanding and contracting, over and over, it doesn't matter:-)

As far as most fantasy Marvel and the like, a new agenda seems to be present that is turning off fans and the studios are now losing large amounts money because of that. Money or lack there of is starting to fix the problem because people complaining about this that or the other thing are not replacing the people these garbage movies and terrible spin off TV series have driven off. I think the all mighty dollar will in a short time fix this problem. Sorry about the rant but what an amazing building you are putting together here.

@TheLotroNerd I don't think it's the worst. They just did a poor job of developing the characters. I don't really feel a connection to any of them. Maybe Arondir a little, and Elrond a little, but it's a fleeting feeling of connection at best...for me at least:)

I don’t agree with your dislike of the rings of power. I freaking loved it. Maybe you’ve grown cynical and that’s why you didn’t care about the characters? Idk. Great work on the hobbit hole again.

I've been watching this project from the start, and two things have happened. 1. I have been absolutely delighted to the the progress you've made, especially in recent months when the hobbitesque architecture has really become apparent. 2. I am certain that this is something I'd love to do here in the UK, if my life circumstances permitted it! I'm only 18 so far, we'll see how it goes… 😅 Thank you for this awe-inspiring content!

Respectfully disagree. Its not perfect-casting is particularly poor, but the story is solid. I like it a lot. The problem is context. It’s naturally compared to LOTR-IMO the greatest epic film ever shot. Not much will stand up well against that. Even the Hobbit, which were perfectly sound movies, were noticeably pale in comparison. So I’m extending grace, as best one can, to divorce it from LOTR, despite the story continuity, and enjoy it for what it is.

@gregzoller9003 I wasn't too fond of The Hobbit movies either. I agree with you that LOTR set the bar really high. Undoubtedly, that is affecting my assessment of this new series. My daughter likes it, I don't, and I recognize there is a huge amount of subjectivity in my review:)

The hobbit hole looks great as usual!Disappointing about the dirt situation, but I’m sure you will pull it off I refused to watch rings of power. There is hope that the anime series coming out this December will be worth watching. 🤞🏻

Impressing how you sacrificed a camera for the cement mixer shot! ☺️👍 YOU have "endeared yourself" to us, so that we care how it ends! If you plant a lot of ferns around the Hobbit hole, it wil look even more enbedded into nature. 🌿🌿🌿
