Great question - No, the BA is not responsible for defining the tech behind the solution, BUT the BA acts as the glue in bringing together the right people to help drive this discussion. So in this case, the BA would setup a meeting with the solution architect and the tech lead (if there is one) and kick off the meeting/chat with the problem statement and/or the key business requirements and let the the solution architect and tech lead to carry on the discussion. The BA should facilitate this conversation.

I think you should definitely look at getting a degree, even if it's an online program or something that can be done part-time. It's really valuable to have the qualification. Ok now getting a degree in something that interests you really matters. It wouldnt be right if I point to anything particular course as I dont know your strengths/interest. Bro just remember - BA is only a stepping stone to many different careers/roles. To move up the chain in a corporate environment you definitely need a degree. You are already a BA so you adding a degree can help you move on to different roles - project manager, product manager, program manager etc. Being a BA is such a versatile role that allows you to gain a lot of skills. Also since you already plan to start something on your own (which I totally recommend you should do) - look to study something that will give help in business - management course, finance, etc. Love your message and so great to hear from you bro. Did you have an IT related role in the Bank or purely a Banking role? It is possible for someone from Banking background to become a Business Analyst for the same bank they work for. They act as SME in IT projects where they bring their Banking knowledge to help build IT systems.

If you like coding/tech work then yeah data scientist could be a good route. Business Analyst in its true sense doesn't need coding. Understanding of software systems, databse, integrations is all you need. It's more about understanding the business problem and business domain.

There is no particular qualification requirement for this role. Any bachelor degree is probably enough. But you need to get general understanding of projects and some knowledge of IT would definitely help.

Seek for BA opportunities in your current workplace or just seek opportunity to shadow a BA in your team. Certifications or online course can help with learning some concepts. Maybe ECBA as its the entry level certificate.

Always best to start with your testing experience rather than trying to wait for that entry level BA role. It's more feasible to switch to a BA from a tester as opposed to getting an entry level BA role.
