I have a old antique Jewish Hebrew prayer book with an ivory pineapple on it with the two stone tablets on top of it. I always wondered why? Thank you

Thank you for this video. My mom mom side of the family was originally Orthodox, followed strict rules, and were kosher. When my grandma was dating my grandpa she changed our family believes to Reconstructionist. My family survived the pogroms in Poland, and the invasion of Poland in 1939 and 1941.

Hi. Do reconstructionists believe the written Torah consistently stays the same throughout the ages? Or do they believe God and His written law evolve through the ages?

What is the difference between Reform and Reconstructionist Judaism?
@reggieburkes4471
@reggieburkes4471 3 жыл бұрын
Reconstructionist believe Judaism is a evolving civilization instead of a religion. They don’t believe in direct revelation from G-d at mount Sinai and don’t believe in miracles that are mentioned in the people. They believe that G-d interferes or would suspend the law of physics or pick winners and losers. Reform Judaism believes similar but they believe that Torah was divinely inspired by G-d at Mount Sinai. Reform also doesn’t follow Jewish law as much as reconstructionist do also.

Amy, I have been entranced with the 'liminal space' since I read Arnold Van Gennep's Rites of Passage and wrote a paper on it for college 60 some years ago. Not only that, but I was a spinner, weaver, vegetable dyer during the "back to the land" movement time. And it is true: Linen and wool. Wool readily accepts color, as will silk, but linen and other vegetable fibers have coverings around their cells which resist the dye. Not only that, but if you washed a garment made of linen and wool, the wool would shrink, and the linen not... But the high priest's garments were not dyed! only white! and perhaps they were not washed too much, as he wore them only during ritual times, not all the time. I will write more to you in an email.

So in other words if Torah teaches something that makes you feel uncomfortable you just simply disregard it as historically inaccurate? Sorry but that's not true Judaism. .. 🔯

When i realized the torah was manmade- I had been basically raised Orthodox and it broke me to realize all deities are mythological. This might give me something. But it is so hard when it's all so painful still. I have always been dedicated to truth. How could we continue to to propagate stories that are false. They ancient hebrews didn't even know the names of the kemetic gods.
@bencatechi4293
@bencatechi4293 3 жыл бұрын
The role of any person, regardless of religion, is to make the world a better place for each other. As he said, the power of these stories has never been that they were “true.” Even for someone who believes they are true, the real power comes from how the story makes them act. That’s what gives God power. God gets power by impacting the lives of countless generations of Jews. God lives within us all, not as a mystical spirit inside us, but as the cumulated power of his story
