Oh totally! Like when they want their characters to be watching Star Trek but it's way easier to make their own crappy Star Trek knockoff than to pay for the actual rights... and all of us in the audience know exactly what they're doing but give them a pass because we love the show so much... and then Mom gets a phone call about how much homework I've been missing... and then Dad comes home and cracks open a brand new bottle of Jim Beam.... But I digress....

Cutting the gore and everything was just a weird choice. But cutting the character interactions lost so much flavor for later on. Just a baffling choice and I don't know if there's an acceptable answer out there to explain it.

Probably not that close.

Glad I found this channel, very witty and clever! Fun fact I'd like to throw out there: the taller two of the three Star Wars actors mentioned were also this weird robotic dance duo (Tik & Tok, which is no for obvious reasons very hard to search for) that toured with Gary Numan for a time. They were great casting choices I think for the rather acrobatic alien costumes.

While I don't necessarily need a movie to spell everything out for me, I am a big believer of them being able to stand on their own two feet. If the director wanted to tell me what something meant, the time for them to do so was in the movie. Not in the bonus materials after the movie is released. It's like when people say "this part makes sense if you read the book" or "this was explained in Fortnight's DLC." I generally don't let things like that get a pass.
@andrewvasquez19605 ай бұрын
@@sugarpantsvideobasement I agree with that, being that art is non verbal it's great just watching how expressive he is, that being said nobody else knows his story and the pale girl according to the director was the once that brought him back to life after terrifier 1.

Yeah, and for me, the story is secondary. I'm here to see Art be Art. As I said in my review of #2, it's like Porn. I'm not interested in the story so much. I just want the story to be a delivery system for what I'm there to see. For now, it's not really an issue. I hope your channel continues to grow and you can invest in better equipment. I noticed someone else commented a similar sentiment. But, the quality of your reviews stand on their own. Great review, I really enjoyed it. The only problem I had was that you didn't comment on the great creature designs for this film which were done by............... me. I worked on this film for over 2 years, from conceptualization to post production and it was a tremendous effort that faced many challenges for such a low budget film which was made in the era prior to the ability to fix anything in post production. I'm proud that this film has garnered the amount of attention it has well over 30 years after it was made. You were wrong about one detail you mentioned early on, it was never called "The Spawning". I think you might be referring to it's original title 'The Deadly Spawn II: Metamorphosis. It was originally written to be a sequel to the cult classic film 'The Deadly Spawn' but the connection was dropped because the director (Glenn Takakjian) thought the final product was too different from the original film. (I personally feel that was a mistake and it should have remained an official sequel) I literally laughed out loud at a number of your jokes about the film, thanks for doing this review of a film I have many fond memories of working on.

Fantastic to hear! I've actually had a couple comments from folks who worked on movies I've reviewed. It definitely makes it easier to stay motivated knowing people enjoy my writing!

Over my many years in the business of making special effects, there are some jobs that come and go and then there are projects that are episodes of my life I will never forget... the making of this film was one of those projects that greatly impacted my life. I met the woman who would become my wife and we've been married for 30 years now while working on it. I worked on it with some people who were very talented heroes of mine and some who were my friends from high school. I started on this film as an illustrator but by the end of production I was deeply involved with physically creating the creature effects. New friendships were formed and other friendships were destroyed and all those events still touch me till this very day. When I watch this film, I see a place and a time that's rich with memories. The actor who played Dr Vialini (evil corporate leader of Talos) has since passed away and I have to tell you that in real life, he was a fun guy who was a joy to work with and I feel sad he's no longer with us in life. I still remember that the producer and director wanted to hire Vincent Price to play that part but were unable to get him for the part because he was in failing health at the time. I can tell you that the connection to the original film 'The Deadly Spawn' is still in this unofficial sequel because the make up artist John Dods who created the monster for that film came in as a guest puppeteer for the mutant dog 'Checkers' just for the fun of it. This was a film that launched many careers for people like me who were just beginners working on this movie. It may be a low budget fun romp of a movie for people who see it today, but it was a tremendous life transforming effort for most people who worked on it. We were all Star Trek and Star Wars and Ray Harryhausen fans living the dream. This film may be flawed and didn't become a tremendous success but, I wouldn't trade the memories made while working on it for any price.
@sugarpantsvideobasement7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for sharing all of that! One of the big reasons I wanted to do this show was to help bring a bit of light to some movies that may have been forgotten or just didn't reach the right person. Metamorphosis is a prime example of that for me. I totally missed out on it, and probably never would have seen it if it wasn't out looking for "trash". (please remember that I do not use that as a derogatory term!) I'm definitely a sucker for practical special effects, including KY Jelly covered puppets AND stop motion. Good, bad, or whatever quality, if it's in a movie I want to see it! As for "flawed" movies... I think as long as a cast and crew set out to put their heart and soul into a project, even flawed, it'll come through and people in the audience will see it. And internet creepers like me will try to find it and pass it along to our viewers!!!!!
