I prefer non-catchy, as then I don't have to deal with the song running through my head for a week. /s I'll admit this isn't one of their more complex songs, nor even close to my favourite. It is fun, and I think the video is pretty cool. As for 'safe' I guess that is what I appreciate about Skillet in the genre, and why I wasn't into the genre so much before discovering them. I don't really need depressing, edgy, dark lyrics, even if I like the sound of a lot of metal, musically. I'm not sure how much Skillet you've listened to. While they certainly have a sound (what bands don't?), there is actually a fairly broad range of styles (ballads, anthemic, etc.). They are a great band to catch live. Their show is currently 2nd to Rush Presto tour in my concert going time. I love their guitar tones (about as good as anyone, IMO). There is a good amount of complexity to their music writing, and thoughtful, positive lyrics. Jen is a pretty good drummer, but to be able to sing like she does while drumming isn't something I've often seen. John/Jen's vocal mix is magical (obviously not on this song). Seth doesn't often do long solos, but you can tell he's quite talented with the ones he does (both studio, but in concert). Korey is pretty amazing, when you consider all she's doing in many of the songs, along with rocking out with crazy energy (& she's in her 50s!).

For someone who is calling themselves nerdy you really haven’t understood a thing about Scene Queen. Or maybe you just lack the keen eye to know what her music is about. Boo for you.
@GenerallyNerdy
@GenerallyNerdy 3 ай бұрын
her music is feigning depth but it is vapid meaningless drivel. It is a farce of the genre is pretends to be a part of. That being metalcore, which is how major music media is selling it. The whole "bimbocore" moniker is laughable. You can't give yourself a nickname, just like you don't get to magically create a sub genre because you think its cute to act like an airhead. Her idea of female empowerment is ALSO laughable. Choose a side, is content created for the "male gaze" good en empowering or bad and victimizing? You can't eat your cake and have it too. Is that sufficiently succinct and nerdy enough of a synopsis of my thoughts about scene queen?

totally doing a reaction from the hip there boss... Meaning i go in armed with just the stuff in my brain. I also have pretty bad ADHD, which means sometimes words and names are difficult to recall on the spot. Sometimes I am really good with that stuff, sometimes I am really not. Another Australian band that you should check out that I found through the folks on the king gizz reddit that are absolutely awesome, but literally nobody has done a reaction to them on youtube (trust me I looked) is called Battlesnake. They're a heavy metal band. They only have two albums, an EP and a few singles, but they are truly one of the most underrated bands EVER! Their song Nightmare King, I believe, was their first song they released. It's sooo good! There's a live performance of it on youtube and I'll admit, they are just a tad bit quirked up, but come on, they're Australian for god's sake. They get a free pass. lol. But yeah. They're awesome, they're heavy, they're extremely underrated. It might just be how new they are and where they're from, but still.
@GenerallyNerdy
@GenerallyNerdy 3 ай бұрын
I think part of the "underrated" nature of them is part of the reason people love them so much. They put out like 2 or 3 records a YEAR! meaning they don't have the same promotion machine that other more high-profile bands do. That kills the potential reach of their material by the nature of it. But they are starting to pick up steam i think on the popularity front.
@lordender_kitty_official
@lordender_kitty_official 3 ай бұрын
I've shown king gizz to my brother and he also said that he's not really a fan of Stu's vocals. To be honest, it is a bit of an acquired taste, kinda like Dave from megadeth, but once you get used to his voice, he frickin' kills it on a lot of different songs and genres. He did an amazing jog on their other metal album Infest The Rats' Nest. And on the subject of their vocals, he didn't have any main vocals in this song I don't think, but Ambrose has an awesome voice. I'd recommend listening to their song Iron Lung. It's not really metal at all, but it picks up a lot in the middle and when Ambrose' part starts- holy hell. But watch the live on KEXP version. That's the best performance of it in my opinion.
@GenerallyNerdy
@GenerallyNerdy 3 ай бұрын
my buddy who is into Gizz like A LOT has shown me that record. They are insanely talented, and they truly understand the genres they dip into. My ONLY issue was the vocal training. because they don't exclusively create metal, they don't need the same vocal training. Just is what it is I think.

Its funny you talk about compression , while you have insane compression on the video raping the song even more (it distorts even ), it rapes the song or any song, same for your gating on the mic. sound from the screen is never mixed in , in a video its not even recorded.... its all post production, but i agree the effects are pretty badly mixed, a matter of fact the water does not at all correspond to the water we see. prob the difference of a person that mixes music.... and a person that mixes audio for film besides that nice reaction but please remove noise suppression compression and gating. it sounds artificial

I get what your saying here about a lot of Skillets songs sounding similar or giving the same vibe but thats fine with me. I actually like it when things stay the same for the most part. I get my variety from band to band rather than song to song. For instance, I am also a fan of songs by: sabaton, manowar, metallica, three days grace, ELO, Blue Oyster Cult, Avenged Sevenfold, linkin park, the beatles, sum 41, imagine dragons, fall out boy, styx, Billy Joel, the black eyed peas, venga boys, eiffel 64, lmfao, run dmc, Frank Sinatra, Boney M, Jimmy Buffet, the chordettes, disturbed, deep purple, Whitney Huston, Earth Wind and Fire, Micheal Jackson, Fats Domino, ACDC, Ray Charles, The Transiberian Orchestra, Mozart, Queen, Heart, def Leapard, Alestorm, Weird Al, Warrant, Bowling for Soup, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Dolly Parton, Jack Black, Kenny Logins, Stevie Wonder, etc. So there are tons of various songs and musical styles I like. Sticking with one would get old or overbearing. So I cycle through them depending on whatever I feel like listening to at the moment. Even those like Britney Spears or Taylor Swifts music I can generally tolerate listening to. I just dont like the artists themselves. So I dont get too invested in the artist or the messaging of the songs. As long as it sounds pleasing to my ears thats all that matters. Thats why I can listen to music by foreign artists who I could have no Idea what they are saying and still enjoy their music. So..... if an artist decides to use one style of music or have all their songs sound relatively the same thats fine to me as long as it sounds great to me. Even if I know only the most popular songs by a band thats fine. There is a reason those songs generally become their most popular hits. Steering away from the messaging or Artists themselves leaves any dissapointing details to discuss from ruing the music for me.

TicTok isn't going to be banned unless the US also bans VPNs. It's like those states that are banning P*rn Hub from ISPs because they won't age gate their site like it's the late 90's early 00's. As they say in the movie Serenity, "Can't stop the signal, Mal. Everything goes somewhere, and I go everywhere."

true, but how many normies know how to run a VPN for those purposes? Also the app its self won't be banned, app stores will no longer be able to host it though. which means side-loading will be necessary in the future. And how many normies do you know who can do THAT? ALSO it is MUCH harder (nigh impossible some would say) to side-load in the Apple framework. At least until their EU regulations hit state-side. So, for all intents and purposes TicTok will no longer be a thing in the near future.
